Three goals scored by Rosengren, Johansson and Elm respectively gave Kalmar valuable 3 points and the leadership. Supporters in Djurgården can finally be proud of their team as well. However, in a game against TFF they needed some luck (own goal in 71st minute). After the victory DIF moved up to 8th place but are just 3 points behind the leaders. Last week was also great for defending champions, Elfsborg. They earned six points after beating both TFF and IFK. A game in Borås started with a goal for IFK, scored by the best club striker - Marcus Berg. Then, Elfsborg started to attack with passion and Anders Svensson equalized. Same player added two goals in the second half and completed his hattrick. Next round will be very thrilling thanks to derby games in Stockholm and Göteborg.

Well, we let this sit for a while, but now's the time to pay attention, because there's quite the little race going on. 2 matches left, and, mathematically, 5 teams could still win the championship. Realistically, it's a 3 team race, but here's what we're looking at going down the stretch: 1- IFK Göteborg (43 points, +19 goal difference) Remaining matches- at AIK Sunday, vs. Trelleborg Oct. 28 AIK theoretically could still crash the championship party, so that match is not a gimme. Trelleborg could need the finale to stay up, so IFK is not going to have a walk to what would be their first title since 1996. 2- Djurgården (43 points, +15) Remaining matches- at Halmstad Sunday, vs. Brommapojkarna Oct. 28 Again, it's a tougher road, possibly for reasons out of their control. Halmstad need a minor miracle to win the championship, but could still finish top-4 and get some international play, via the Royal League. as with IFK, DIF is getting a final opponent who may need to win to remain in the league, and the AIK-factor, which we'll get into momentarily, may through a wrench into the works. DIF is looking for their first championship since 2005, and their 4th in the last 6 seasons. 3- Kalmar (42 points, +8) Remaining matches- at Brommapojkarna Saturday, vs. AIK Oct. 28 FF have already won the Swedish Cup, and are gunning for the double, and their first ever Allsvenskan championship. Brommapojarna are fighting for their lives, but if Kalmar can get a win in that match, they might actually be in the driver's seat going into the final match, for reasons we'll get into momentarily. One potential problem is that goalkeeper Petter Wastå suffered an elbow injury earlier this week in training, though the word is that he should be able to play the final 2 matches. 4- AIK (38, +6) Remaining- vs. Göteborg, at Kalmar They would need to win out, and get a lot of help to win their first championship since 1998, and they'll be eliminated from the race if any of the top 3 win this weekend, but if we get out of this round with Kalmar on top of the heap, we're going to hear a LOT about AIK deciding who is going to win the 2007 championship. See, some of the more...hardcore of AIK fans have already started the "if we can't win it, we can sure as hell stop DIF from winning it" talk, and if a win, or a draw would clinch glory for Kalmar vs. AIK that final weekend, well... Not saying that it would actually happen, mind you, but AIK is going to be a huge part of this run-in, despite the fact that they probably won't win the championship. 5- Elfsborg (37, +2) Remaining- vs. Örebro tonight, at Malmö Oct. 28 The situation is dire for back-to-back championsips, as a draw by either IFK or DIF, a win by Kalmar, or an Elfsborg loss or draw this weekend will end hope. Really, they've got to win out, and have AIK win at Göteborg, draw at Kalmar, have Göteborg and DIF lose out, and overcome Kalmar's goal advantage. Probably not going to happen, but, as of now, they're still in it. No one else can win the championship, and only Hammarby could mathematically crash the top 4, though they would again, need to win out and get some help. At the bottom, it's 3 teams, and 1 isn't going to make it. Örebro have 22 points, and Trelleborg and Brommapojkarna each have 20. Trelleborg is safe right now, via goal differential. It should be an exciting finish, and I'm honestly not sure who will pull it out. I can see AIK playing spoiler though, with Kalmar taking the championship.
That would be SOOOO depressing. I don't really have anything against Kalmar, but they're not fit to represent Sweden in Europe, at any level, at the moment. European matches @ Fredrikskans? But it could happen of course... I'm going with my team though, we're on a roll at the moment.
When they made the Intertoto Cup a couple of years ago, they did have the matches at Fredriksskans, and I think they'd contiune that, at least in the early qualifying rounds. Looking at the stadium regulations, I'm not even sure if Fredriksskans is eligible to host matches after the 2nd qualifying round, if Kalmar were to get that far (rules state that you can host 1st and 2nd QR matches at a category-2 stadium, and for the 3rd QR on through the semifinals, you need to be in at least a category-3 venue.) My guess is, that if Kalmar did enough to get that far, matches would probably be in Stockholm at Råsunda. We're getting ahead of ourselves a little bit, but that would be the situation. Kalmar are already getting European football though, remember- they won the Swedish Cup, at the very least, they're in the UEFA Cup. If they win the league, and IFK Göteborg finish 2nd, the 3rd place team is going to get a trip to Europe as well, because Göteborg's UEFA Cup place would be for being the runner-up in the Cup, meaning that there would still be one UEFA Cup slot to go to whoever would finish 3rd in the league.
One down in the championship race as Örebro knocked off Elfsborg today, ending the hope of a repeat title for Elfsborg. A loss by either Brommapojkarna or Trelleborg in their matches Sunday will secure safety for Örebro.
Well, in the context of recent Swedish European results, what is a "decent European run"? This year, Elfsborg and Helsingborg made the UEFA Cup group stage, and AIK and Hammarby went out in the first round, and that's a better result than I've seen in a little while. If they win the league, I doubt that they have the funds to put together a squad that would make the group stages of the Champions League, but they might be able to put together a team that could at least equal Helsingborg and Elfsborg, and once you get to the group stage, anything can happen. In other news, looking at Aftonbladet, it looks like the Royal League might be dead. Well, at least the Norweigan FA is saying that it's probably dead, and the Swedish FA isn't quite so sure yet. I'm not sure that it came anywhere near a "success", so it might be time to pull the plug.
Winning the league in Sweden doesn't automatically give you more funds. The players win-bonuses will probably mean that in short term you make a loss for winning. And Kalmar can't bank on bringing in big money from the qualification matches (as with for example DIF-Juventus, DIF-Partizan which brought in a couple of millions of winnings) as there is no room for huge crowds and the interest for broadcasting Kalmars matches would be lower than the big clubs which equals a lot less money for the tv-deal than the big clubs would get. Kalmar can carry on as the have done lately and if that's good enough to win it, then all credit to them. But financially they can't compete with the big clubs anytime soon.
So, Kalmar does what they need to, beating Brommapojkarna 2-1 to (temporarily, at least) move to the top of the leauge. Djurgården at Halmstad tomorrow, IFK Göteborg at AIK. At the bottom, Trelleborg's win over Hammarby, coupled with the Kalmar result means that they move 3 points ahead of Brommapojkarna in the relegation race. A win, or draw with IFK Göteborg, or Brommapojkarna losing or drawing in the final round means that Trellborg is safe. Brommapojkarna would have to beat Djurgården, have Trelleborg lose, and have both results be lopsided enough to overturn a 9 goal advantage that Trelleborg currently holds. Everyone else currently in the Allsvenskan is now safe from relegation. As for the 3 teams coming up from the Superettan, with 1 match left, we know 2 of them. IFK Norrköping are coming up as Superettan champions, coming back after relegation in 2002. Today's results also allow Ljungskile to punch their ticket to the Allsvenskan, for the 2nd time. The first trip up was one season in 1997, ending in relegation. The final spot will go to either GIF Sundsvall, who travel to Ljungskile for the final round, or BK Häcken, away to IF Sylvia. Right now, Sundsvall has a 1 point lead, and clinch promotion with a win, a draw and a Häcken draw or loss, or a loss and a Häcken loss. If Sundsvall lose, and Häcken draws, Häcken go up on goal differential. And, for the sake of completeness, there are 2 teams who will drop out of the Superettan this season. IF Sylvia are already relegated, and joining them will be either Östers IF (29 points), Falkenbergs FF (31), or Jönköpings Södra IF (31). Coming up from the 2 Division 1's to fully set the 16-team Superettan are Assyriska, Väsby United, Qviding, and Ängelholms FF.
This matchday is really important, it should have been played on the same day really... Oh well, time to shatter som dreams (hopefully IFK's and Kalmars...). The train to Halmstad leaves in an hour. Let's go!

Even better, no one really controls their own destiny, everyone will need some sort of assitance to win the championship. So, lets start running down the scenarios, with all games this coming Sunday: IFK Göteborg (13 wins, 7 draws, 5 losses, 46 points, 43 goals scored, 23 goals allowed, +20 difference) Match- vs. Trelleborg at Ullevi IFK win the championship with: -a win, and a Djurgården win by FEWER than 4 goals than IFK's winning margin. (for example, a 2-1 IFK win coupled with a 5-0 Djurgården win would still give IFK the championship on goal difference) - a win and a Djurgården loss or draw - a draw, and a Djurgården loss or draw, and a Kalmar loss or draw - a loss, and a Djurgården loss (so long as the goal differential does not tip in Djurgården's favor), and a Kalmar loss or draw (a Kalmar draw in this scenario would result in a 3-way tie for the championship, and the tiebreak rules do not change, IFK would still be champions on goal differential, so long as the losses by IFK and Djurgården are not absolute blowouts) Djurgården (13-7-5, 46 39-23 +16) vs. Brommapojkarna at Stockholms Stadion Djurgården are champions with: -a win, by MORE than 4 goals than IFK's winning margin (i.e., a 6-0 win, coupled with a 1-0 IFK win would give Djurgården the championship on goal difference) - a win and a IFK loss or draw - a loss, coupled with a IFK loss large enough to tip the goal difference in Djurgården's favor, and a Kalmar loss or draw - a draw, and a IFK loss, and a Kalmar loss or draw Kalmar (14-3-8, 45, 41-32, +9) vs. AIK at Fredriksskans Kalmar win the championship with: - a win, and a IFK loss or draw, and a Djurgården loss or draw. Kalmar can theoretically win the championship with a draw, and a IFK loss, and a Djurgården loss, but IFK would have to lose by at least 12 goals, and Djurgården would have to lose by at least 9 goals. I'm sure I'm missing a step here or there, but we're going to have a week of hype to see how this will all shake out.
I KNEW I'd miss something. Looking at SFF rules, if goal differential is equal, the next step is goals scored, and finally, head to head results. If the head to head is equal, you'd then look to see who scored the most goals away from home, and if that can't decide it, you'd have a neutral site playoff. So, the scenario for DIF is actually a win by 4 or more goals than IFK's winning margin. They'd be level on goal difference, level on goals scored, goals allowed is not a tiebreaker, so DIF would win on the third tiebreaker. Really, it's only easy for Kalmar. They HAVE to win, just to stay alive, no margin for error. DIF and IFK, at least theoretically, could slip up, and still end the day celebrating. It'll be an interesting day to follow.
If nothing else, final-round drama is good for the box offices. Fredriksskans is sold out for AIK-Kalmar, and they brought in temporary seating for the occasion. Not sure of what the final number will be, but it'll be a full house. IFK Göteborg is also calling it a sellout, 40,706 for their match, with 300 special offer tickets to be available starting at 1:30 Sunday afternoon, and they're expected to be gone quickly. So, at 41,006, it'll be the best-attended match of the season, topping the 32,000+ that saw Djurgården - AIK. As for Djurgården, they've sold over 14,000 at Stadion, and while they're not calling it a sellout yet, I belive the only tickets available are out of the allocation that Brommapojkarna returned.
I don't think it will be full actually. AIK got LOADS of tickets because they thought they where going to win it in this match. There are probably hundreds of AIK-fans that have tickets but won't show up now that they are in no-mans land.
Ah, but this being the 21st century, you can hop onto the Swedish version of eBay and see tickets being offered for both the Kalmar and IFK matches, looking to run you anywhere from 500-1000 kronor for 2 tickets. Aftonbladet also has an article on this saying that some AIK purchasers are looking to sell their tickets, so, while it may not be full, I think it'll be pretty close. The SFF kind of lucked out in getting 3 teams with a legit chance to win the championship, all playing at home in the final round of the season.
I have a bad feeling this might not end that well for IFK. I´m shure Dif will score more goals than us. The question is how many more?! It will be inspiring for Trelleborg to meet us front of 40000 people. Some of the Bp players have played for Djurgården. I am especially worried about Karlsson. He used to be the captain for Dif. How will he feel if he scores the odd goal on a corner kick and dumps dif´s chances to wim the championship. Hypothetical, but still.... Trelleborg put Berg aside to this game against his own team, ifk. He is on a loan. Maybe Bp should have done the same thing with Karlsson. The bp-players really look up to Aik and Dif. Maybe they even look at it being a merit loosing big here and giving the gold to Big Brother. Let´s hope they haven´t played Lången this time. Heja Blåvitt!

I was shocked to see the scores in the Allsvenskan today. Can't quite believe that DIF couldn't beat Brommapojkarna, thought it would be a goal-fest! I had a horrible feeling that Kalmar would nick the second spot and that's come true. What a disappointing end to the season for Stockholm, IFK finished off the season in style - so congrats to them!
