Just talking with my wife last night while watching the game. We were both impressed with the quality of the squad. Where do you think they'd fall after a full season in England's top flight.

(crossing fingers this doesn't turn into a cluster$%^*)

I voted top 10, but I think they'd be about a mid table team so closer to 10. No way they can compete with the big boys whose salary/transfer budgets are way bigger than the combined MLS All Star salaries/transfer values.

And this is why these discussion always fail. Trying to compare a team where players make 40k because of salary constraints, to a team that has no budget is never a fair comparison. How would the all star team compete if the league had no salary cap and the players had names like Ronaldo etc?

Great post and tough question. I said Top 10 but wow that's tough. Honestly after the top 7 or 8 teams I don't see the rest of the squads being that tough. Maybe somewhere between 10 and 15 places might be a better answer.

I think around 10 as well, which isn't an option (is 10 "top 10" or "10-15"?). The team would have few big stars at the Prenier League level unlike the top teams, but would have far more depth than the bottom teams.

I kinda put that line in the sand at 10. I also think right around 10...maybe I'll edit if I still can.

    Edit, nope.

Top 10 is the next group, so 5-10, 10-15.....etc

I voted top 10. Regular MLS squads are doing well this year against pedestrian-level EPL clubs. All-Star team would definitely compete.

I voted relegation fodder. There are only 19 players, one is already injured, and two are too old to play week in and week out. Plus Ben Olsen would be the manager, and he's not tactically savvy enough for the league.

    I was counting these guys:

13 More Named To 'Inactive' Roster

    Complete list of inactive All-Stars:
Jon Busch (San Jose Earthquakes), Marvin Chávez (San Jose Earthquakes), Kenny Cooper (New York Red Bulls), Geoff Cameron (Houston Dynamo), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Fabián Espíndola (Real Salt Lake), Roger Espinoza (Sporting Kansas City), Kei Kamara (Sporting Kansas City), Fredy Montero (Seattle Sounders FC), Jámison Olave (Real Salt Lake), Marco Pappa (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), Brek Shea (FC Dallas).

So 33 total. Not sure how guys like Bernardez, Gruenebaum, Sene, Saborio, etc. don't make the top 33 but whatever...

These threads man, every time. Top 10 is crazy talk, they'd be fighting off relegation.

    Not at all.

The question is how would these 19 (or 33) guys, not some hypothetical mls team, do as an EPL squad over 38 games. I don't see how their salaries have anything to do with it.

I can't see them finishing above 15th. The starting back line would be weak, and there isn't much depth behind them.

    Something like 12th-16th I think.

    Hard to say, really.

This All-Star team would finish 10th-13th, but if you actually put a team together with the best players they would likely finish top 7-9 IMO. Meaning a team with Nesta, Friedrich, Cahill, Fernandez, Di Vaio, Keane, Omar, Frings, and yes...Rafa.
