    1. If the Crew and Richmond cannot agree on a fee that fits Testo into the Discovery category does the Crew have first right to use an allocation on him?

    2. Apparently there are allocations given to teams who had Etch, Bocanegra, Cienfuegos, and Mathis leave although they were out of contract. Please explain.

No. Dallas has first crack at allocations at least the way allocations were discribed by Gravidis last year. Allocations go by the reverse order of team finish.

MLS has a committie that deems if a player leaving is worth enough to THAT team to give an allocation to replace WHAT that player meant to that team. In the last few years they have given allocations for players they deem "marque" regardless of if they are signed to the league or not. Last year, for example, Chicago, Colorado, and Metros got allocations for Nowark, Valdarrama, and Ramos retiring.

Right on every point save this one. Ramos was not deemed worthy of an allocation (I can only assume due to his constant injury problems). The Metros did not get an allocation for Ramos.

I was wrong. They got one for not making the playoffs which they traded to DC in the Pope/Moreno trade and the Metros got one for Diallo not resigning that they used to sign Guerava. I had just assumed that the second one was for Ramos as I compleatly forgot about Diallo. I guess I should always remember that assume begins with ass and that's never good.

Found this that set me straight and should help with the first question

No need to get defensive, since I'm not trying to troll, just point out the facts. I know my team. The You Suck allocation is the one traded to DC in the Pope trade. Guevara, who was an allocation, was obtained from the allocation received for the sale of Mamadou Diallo.

The Metros Discovery players last season were the two Argentines, and they didn't trade for a discovery pick for Juskowiak. Juskowiak was discovered by SJ and the Metros traded for his rights at the trade deadline. It just took a bit longer to work out the visa problems.

I was wrong. I wasn't trying to be defensive, just trying to tell it like I thought it was.

No worries. I just have way too much useless MLS trivia for my own good. To bring the thread back on topic though, I doubt Columbus would need to use an allocation on Testo. They could if they wanted to (I doubt anyone else would want to use an allocation on an unproven player), but I'd guess they would put him in a weighted lottery or something like that. In that situation, Columbus would have a great chance to get him for free, especially if Dallas opts out. As it is, if Testo feels he's ready for MLS, it really shouldn't cost Columbus more than a discovery pick unless the kid comes in at max salary.
