Earlier today I found out that Allie Kemp is scheduled to be on the San Diego radio show "Inside Soccer" this afternoon between 4:05 PM and 6 PM (PT). Allie played the last two seasons with the Boston Breakers and according to today's San Diego Union-Tribune she might tryout for the Spirit if she clears waivers on Monday. If you want to talk to Allie, you can call radio station KSDO at (858)/560-1130 and listen to the show live while you are waiting on hold. If you are in the San Diego area, KSDO radio can be heard on AM 1130. Live streaming is back at KSDO so you can also listen to "Inside Soccer" again using your computer. Here is the link for more information: LIVE STREAMING IS BACK!!
I'm looking forward to hearing her. I can remember (before the first season's combine) her and Sherice Bartling on one of the local soccer radio shows (could have either been "Inside Soccer" or the show that Jeff Scott had back then.
Allie the Radio Star! Allie has been on since the very start of the show (consider her a 4th co-host!) And she has been very articulate. So far, during the first hour, she has said that if she is picked up by team in the draft she is willing to move, and if she isn't she wants to get a try-out with the Spirit. She has talked about her time playing with Boston, about being a 'super-sub' and learning from watching the two Germans on the team.
Although the show had other guests (Eddie Lewis of the NMT called in from England; and Walter Bahr also called in) all of the callers were for and during the segments when Allie was talking. One of the things that she mentioned in the second hour was getting to watch Dagny Mellgren play (she seldom got to play with her because of their similar styles). When asked she said that if she didn't make a team's roster she would like to get into coaching here in San Diego (she has taught elementary school out here.) At the end of the show the discussion moved to the SD Sockers - she talked about watching them (the old version) when she was growing up. Brian Quinn said that next week's game will have a 'demonstration' by the Spirit at half-time, and that the first 1,000 fans in the gate will be given a ball. *** After I posted the above, I checked the Sockers website and found this: http://www.sockers.com/people/?cat=12&id=133 So, it will be the first 5,000 get size-5 balls, and 6 Spirit players will participate in a 'relay race' of soccer skills.
Thank you for the recap on the interview, Tsunami. And thanks to nordby1 for the heads up on the guest.
I did tape parts of the show, and the transcript of those portions will be posted here: http://www.spiritedsoccer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=193
Since no one was picked up in the waiver draft, I assume that Allie will be trying out with the Spirit.
