So with today's goal, can someone confirm where Jaime sits on the All-time list? I believe this is #107 for him, putting him one goal behind the now-retired Kreis.
Which is, of course, a different total than "career goals", which would include US Open Cup, CONCACAF, etcetera. <sigh> It gives me a headache.
Why dont these count by the way? MLS doesnt even include the MLS Cup goals in the total. They do however list them on the players stats along with All Star game stats. I did some quick math and I think that Jaime has over 130 goals if you include all competitions. US Open Cup, MLS Cup, MLS League, etc...
So what's the "official" MLS number for the record? I've been waiting for Jason to retire or die for what seems like forever
Unfortunately, as well as Razov is playing, he'll likely catch Moreno this year, and could play a few more years, but this is really looking like Moreno's last year. So even after Moreno passes Kreis, Razov will catch him.
I think they don't count because it, in theory, wouldn't be fair to good goal scorers on crap teams that don't get many playoff/cup runs, you know? Everyone gets the same amount of league matches. And yes, Jaime's on 107. This will be a massive achievement when it happens of course, and it just might be in the next game against Toronto.
And even less fair to players on teams who do not get invited to Open Cup some years. Stupid Open Cup, they should subtract goals scored in that thing.
Maybe unless Soehn is smart and lets him sit for the first 60-65 minutes. Then I think would have a better chance at scoring.
That is a good point, but I would still like the see the league at least recognize them all. I mean if Jaime bagged a hat trick against the Richmond Kickers in an Open Cup game I think they should still be mentioned because it is a competitive cup match. Sure it isnt league play but you could denote it as such. I dont think that the preseason or other non competitive matches should count (international friendlies) but Open Cup and CONCACAF Champs League Goals should count towards all time totals in my opinion. Dont other leagues keep track? I know that in England they keep track of League Goals and Cup Goals. Anyways, I think that you hit the nail on the head with your thoughts about why the league doesnt mention them.
Regardless of when it happens it does seem like Moreno will finish this season the alltime leading MLS scorer. Cunningham will most likely be the one to reach Moreno first, and then Twellman will certainly be the one to catch Cunningham. One thing that is for certain is that Jaime will remain the all time leading scorer for DC United for many years to come. Those of us that have watched him since '96 have been very fortunate to have witnessed such a legendary career.
