So I'm kind of OCD about numbers, and have been updating the Union's all time roster thread on Wikipedia the past couple years, and have wanted to start a thread to recognize player's records and/or achievements with the Union as they happen. Last night was fairly eventful, so it seems as good a time as any to start. So after last night's game: Sebastien Le Toux became the first player to score 40 goals in Major League Soccer as a member of the Union (39 regular season & 1 play-off). Sheannon Williams became the first player to appear in 120 Major League Soccer games (including play-offs) as a member of the Union. He also became the seventh player to score 7 or more goals in Major League Soccer as a member of the Union. One more goal will move him into sole possession of fifth place, ahead of Freddy Adu and Antoine Hoppenot. Carlos Valdes became the eighth player to log 6,000 regular season minutes as a member of the Union. He also became the ninth player to appear in 70 Major League Soccer games (including play-offs) as a member of the Union. Andrew Wenger became the 40th player to log 1,000 regular season minutes as a member of the Union. He also became the 17th player to score 4 or more goals in Major League Soccer as a member of the Union.
Nice work. I keep a spreadsheet of all the stats, etc. Mostly regular season, though. Playoff stats I always thought should be kept separate. Anyone looking for regular season team records, here are a few of the more important ones (I hate doing tables on BS.com, so it's just a screenshot). As someone mentioned in another thread. The way MLS experiences turnover, Seba is practically putting his team records out of reach.
Seba is angling for a statue outside of PPL after he retires. If he wins the Cup game for us, I say he gets it someday as the first Union star (maybe not the best player, but the most beloved and important at the time).
Had Piotr not lost his mind and shipped LeToux out for a whole season, he'd even be way out in front in Games & Minutes, too.
Would it be like the Michael Jackson statue outside Craven Cottage? The Thierry Henry statue outside Emirates? The Zinedine Zidane statue in Qatar? Or the proposed rotating lion statue at Orlando City's new stadium?
funny you mention Torres after the talk about a statue. overheard a conversation between the Warm Up Guy and Blake a few weeks back. TRE was chanting for Fred. Blake goes over and starts making fun of him. Warm Up Guy says "if you think that's bad, these fans wanted a statue of Roger Torres and he only had one good game for us."
One good game? Look at where he is on the list of assists! That's with idiot Hack as manager. #NeverStopBelieving #ILoveYouAndMissYouRoger
Didn't the same thing happen involving Casey and someone else? I remember that exact story from last year.
Don't really plan on keeping track of player career stats, but I noticed that Seba's goal Sunday moved him into 100th on the all time MLS list. So that's kind of cool. #lookoutlandon #96togo
I am deeply, deeply uncomfortable with Hoppenot being our 5th all-time leading scorer. The Cruz missile and some of the other guys better step up soon.
And Hopp is a league minimum guy. The goals for $ paid is still pretty decent even if a gust of wind knocks him to the ground.
After last night's game: Cristian Maidana became the sixth player to assist on 9 or more regular season goals in Major League Soccer as a member of the Union. One more regular season assist will move him into sole possession of fourth place, ahead of Michael Farfan and Danny Mwanga. Andrew Wenger became the 38th player to appear in 20 regular season games as a member of the Union. Maurice Edu became the 28th player to log 2,000 regular season minutes as a member of the Union. Also, Sebastien Le Toux increased his Union best all time assists record up to 38, and Zac MacMath increased his Union best all time shutouts record up to 27.
So...if you made an all-time Philly Best XI, how many guys on it would NOT be on the team right now? I think I count two- Mapp at LM and Harvey at LB (Honestly, maybe LB should be left open for now).
I think Zac's body of work has passed the Dragon's, not that he wasn't amazing for personality reasons. The interesting question for me is the midfield...do you put in Nogs/Maidana, and maybe even Edu? They haven't been here even a year, but their quality and overall talent is much higher than anything we've ever had.
Not directed at you (despite quoting you)... But I will never get people's fascination with Califf. Nice guy? Sure. Quality defender? Not so much.
