Not sure what the original "talk" was, but the title of the thread seemed to fit best for my questions...

I am staying here in Portland with my parents for the week, and I'd like to take my dad and some of my bro's/sis's to the Minnesota Thunder vs. Portland Timbers game at PGE Park tomorrow, Friday the 27th. Now, I understand that PGE is a baseball stadium, so my first burning question is what is seating like there? What are the drawbacks (if any) to sitting in certain locations? Where do the "vocal" fans sit? (Consider me very vocal!) Are there any other concerns that I should be worried about (pre-game traffic, parking, etc.)?

Oh, is Fred Meyer's the only place to get advance tickets?

Thanks in advance for any help!

For this week anyway ;) ,

    Go Timbers!

your cheering for the wrong team ;) . Section 107 is the spot for the vocal fans, but thats all I'll say because I know there are some Timbers Army members who visit this board that will better suited to helping you out.

Heh heh... Tell you what, I'll give the Thunder an extra ration of razzin' just for you, then :p !

Seriously, though, thanks for the info - I see that 107 is directly behind the goal. Sightlines? Anyone else?

No matter who wins, I'm looking forward to this. My family's never been to a soccer match before, and I'm hoping for a good game that will turn them on to soccer, and give the "beautiful game" that much more of a boost here.

Hey man! You are in for a great time and are about to be exposed to the best soccer fans in the U.S.!

Definitly get tickets for 107. Since that section and that part of the stadium is G.A., just buy a G.A. ticket and got to 107/06.

Just a warning, the Timbers Army is very loud (we average about 500), you will be standing for 90 minutes and the language sometimes crosses to a little blue - but we try to keep it fairly family friendly.

If you are interested in pre-game libations - the Timbers Army hangs out at The BullPen which is right outside the east side of the stadium at 17th and Taylor (the side of the stadium with no seats - with the fence that runs along 17th).

Just ask for me, Finnegan, and someone will point me out. A pint in your name is waiting there - we like visitors.

In terms of transportation...where are you staying? Prking is very limited but the light-rail (train) goes right to the front door of the stadium. Very easy. www.trimet.org is the website for the transportation agency.

Here is a little movie to get you primed for what you can expect:

    | What they said :)

As Finnegan said it is very loud there are several people that use drums and a few cowbell ringers. My ears generaly ring for an hour or so after the game, so if you have sensitive ears I'd suggest ear plugs.

The sitelines from 107 aren't that great, but the atmosphere more than makes up for it.

On the tix as was said just get 'em at the gate , $9 for GA

Here is the bullpen Tavern Yahoo Maps

    Thanks, Finnegan, Lendog and steeplechase3k!

Not sure what time we'll be showing up tomorrow, as we're going to the zoo followed by Multnomah Falls (first day with no forecasted rain tomorrow, gotta take the opportunity and take my son out for some fresh air :D !) What time does Timbers Army show up at The BullPen, and what time will ya'll head over to your seats?

Will be lookin' out for ya', Finnegan! Thanks for the invite!

There is a pregame pub crawl that will end at the Bullpen at 6pm so if you show up after than you'll find us. I believe the plan is to enter the stadium around 7. Just come to section 107 if you miss us earlier.

    Cheers

That will indeed increase your likelihood of receiving free beer.

Had fun tonight, guys... Glad to have met you, Roberto specifically, Timbers Army in general. Finnegan, I was starting to believe that you might not really exist, as every single time I asked after you, I was told you were either in the beer line or in the can :p . To the best of my knowledge, my sister and I sat about 8 rows behind you. Timbers Army sounded fantastic from there, but I noticed that your chants were a little muffled up in section 207, where my dad sat... kinda weird, really... not being critical, just making an observation.

Now somebody tell me what was up with the lights going out 40 minutes into the first half  !

Good luck to y'all in the playoffs!

Apparently not - I asked the girl at the beer counter during the break, and although she claimed not to know specifically why the lights went out this time, she did say that it does happen about twice per year. Go figure.

Oh, incidentally, both my dad and my sister are now officially hooked on soccer - I believe my dad preferred the strategy displayed on the field, while my sister enjoyed the "festive" atmosphere displayed by Timbers Army. Last I heard, they were planning on attending this evening's match against Milwaukee, and bringing more family members to boot. Friday's game was well worth it, I think... :p

Glad you enjoyed it. Now you are a unofficial TA recruiter!!! Make sure you exceed your quota for the season.
