I thought I read online last week that a major "international team" would be announced as the opponent for the all-star game at the opening of the new stadium.

Anyone hear/see who we the MLSers are going to play?

wtf? Words cannot express my displeasure.

It's a no-win situation for MLS - if the all-stars lose, then even the best from MLS can't beat a Mexican team. If the all-stars win, well of course, it's an all-star team! What did anyone expect? That's not a fair game for Chivas... blah, blah, blah

The only way you win in this situation is by playing a team that is in a clearly better league. That way, any result can be excused away )

there'll be one hell of an atmosphere in the stadium though.

i think, in the end, most people will remember it's just a totally meaningless exhibition. still, this game will have some much needed added intensity.

It shouldn't be thought of in those terms anyway.
It's not like the MLS team is a group of players that have been together as a team like Chivas would anyway. It's basically a celebration of the game and the league and the results shouldn't be read as telling of one team or league's quality anyway.
The match will be fun and the MLS players will try hard to win as will Chivas. Should be good whatever the result.

Its about Time the most popular Club in the U.S got invited to the MSL All Star game. Chivas should put on a good show as they have been practicing an all out open style attacking game. Now pictured above is Borboa a 20yr old striker that just got discovered in Chivas DIV 2 team, when you see him play you will say Pescadito who ?

    this is good for mls.

not only does it guarantee a sell out for the HDC all star game but in future games you could have the games in big stadiums and get over 40k fans in the bigger stadiums (mexicans love chivas)

maybe mls can take the game to non mls cities like houston and get a big crowd.

The only All-star game that hasn't sucked was the 1996 game, East vs West. A great game, an incredible goal scored by Tab Ramos, and huge crowd. The Meadowland was sold out and a large part of that was due to the first game which was Brazil vs the World All-stars, if I'm not mistaken. But I think if you keep doing something different each year its going to turn into a yearly circus like it already has. Keep it East vs West until MLS becomes a one table league and then do away with it all together.

Why can't the MLS just do East vs. West?

Oh wait, that'd be too easy.

If it's part of my season ticket package, you can have mine. I dislike the idea of All-Star Games anyway, and playing Chivas, well you won't see me anywhere near the HDC that day.

However, are we jumping the gun a bit here? I haven't seen anything that say's it's Chivas. The announcement was supposed to be made today.

Other reasons why it won't be Chivas:

    1) they're readily available for friendlies in the US because they dont' cost much.

    2) the apertura begins at the same time.

    3) you can see an MFL team any day of the week on FSW en espanol

    4) Cloob America will be in the US the week before

    5) this is the MLS, US soccer, we want US soccer.

new word is that it may be Boca Juniors.

    News flash everyone:

The MLS All-Stars WILL NOT play Chivas!!!

There will be a double-header and the opponent for the MLS All-Stars is yet to be decided. The other game will pit Chivas vs. Boca Juniors and Chivas will unveal their new Kappa jerseys during the game.

So there you go, the MLS will not play Chivas... happy now?

Being a Chivas fan I am happy, two games for the price of one and we get a better opponent in Boca. :)

I would have watched MLS v. Chivas anyways, but Chivas v. Boca and then MlS v. whoever is great. Too bad they won't show Chivas/Boca on tv also though.
