I have a couple of big ice chests I can bring and I'll check my garage - I used to have one of those big canopy thingys for shade.
You can see the train stop on the map, it is east of the astrodome. I have done this walk many times, it is about 15 minutes to the blue lot (which is where most of the huge Texan's tailgates are). Just make sure when you are walking towards the dome, to head around it on the left side.
Is TA or any other supporters group sitting together in the stadium? Are the Reliant Nazis allowing yall to bring anything in?
No poles or something else (I forget, maybe streamers), but the instruments and banners are going in.
If you are going to ride the rail more than once you might get a Metro Q card. After most events at reliant the ticket Kiosks really back up. If you have a MetroQ you can scan it on the side of the Kiosk (e.g. office entry card) and jump on the rail. You dont have to wait in line and get a ticket. Not sure what the min. balance is. You can buy them at Fiesta, Randalls, etc. https://www.ridemetro.org/FareInfo/QRetailer.aspx
Report from All Star Kick Off Party at Venue Not too bad - David Anderson - hilarious Dynamo players and VIP's in roped off area - If you didn't have titties - you didn't get in ( note to self - remember to purchase a selection of colored wrist bands) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=57756&id=1594451449&l=ac388b07cc
Why does Schelotto always look like he belongs in some 80's time capsule? Also, (and I say this as someone with no real time or interest to attend these things anymore), has anyone sensed a pattern with these events that unless you are a VIP you are likely to be disappointed in terms of expectations? I wasn't there tonite so I can't speak, but it's pretty clear that based on the pumps for Ching's party, unless you shell out VIP dollars you're probably likely to have an experience closer to a large corporate Christmas party at the Houston Club at 4:00 in the afternoon with two drink coupons for each person.
The last train leaves Fanin South (the stop before Reliant Park) at 11:00 pm Sunday-Thursday. I see they also have a special All-Star ride card. $5 which gets you four rides. http://www.visithoustontexas.com/micro-sites/mls-allstar-2010/metro-money This site http://www.visithoustontexas.com/micro-sites/mls-allstar-2010/midtown guides you to bars, restaurants, and attractions near the light rail.
You should have seen me in my bellbottoms. That seems to have started at the end of season party last year, where those of us common or garden variety supporters got to mingle with the players when they came into our area to go to the bathroom (Although Waibel and Gabe Thompson did come back with us ragpickers). I got the distinct impression that a large percentage of the crowd couldn't tell you which team won the cup last year or even how long a match lasts. Admittance to the roped off area was via colo(u)red wrist band - hence my note to self. It's a pity, but whatchyagonnado?
Brian Ching's event is for charity, so it's understandable it would charge more for more access to celebrities. The STHs events shouldn't be that way, like the one Nigel mentioned. But there are lots of other events when you can chat with players, like at the playoff pep rally at HOB last year. We talked to Chabala for a while cause he was bored and had nothing else to do while he waited to go on the air with Glenn.
it changing right before our eyes. some of us knew it was coming. its happened in every league as it goes from embryo to established. MetroAg who has been around a MLS team since 1996 has always walked around the Big Soccer sidewalks with his 'the end is near' placard. very similiar to what Westside Cosmo posted, in the end i'm a football fan not a fan of the tiger beat aspect of it. so i really don't care which player likes to eat at Chipotle (answer: Kei Kamara) or what kind of music they listen to i just want us to pick up some points these last couple of week. there also a fine line between paying someone a pound of respect then moving on and all out crotch riding. i'm a grown-ass man, i'm not going to stand there and stroke your ego (or anything else for that matter).
That looks like Guy Torrey in the pics...did he host? Did he have a skit? He made an ass out of himself on Last Comic Standing.
