Well it looks like MLS had to settle for an East vs. West matchup. I'm a little dissappointed that no other club was willing to play our all-stars. Looks like some players will make the all-star team that aren't really deserving

One, I think plenty of clubs were willing, but not for the terms MLS needs to set for its all-star game.

Two, players are going to be all-stars regardless. Even if only one team is named a set of alternates has been to enable the same amount to get their all-star bonuses.

Cripes....please read the rest of the article....or maybe you did, and just don't think it's worth mentioning that the MLS All-Stars wil be playing Real Madrid for the 26th annual Santiago Bernabeu Trophy on September 21 in Madrid.

They better be able to televise the MLS Allstars in Spain. That could be a great game. It comes at a bad time in the schedule, Sept. 21, one day before the US Open Cup final.

Also interesting Freddy Adu is pictured on the front of mlsnet.com associated with the All-Star game. His performance this season has not been all-star quality, but looks like he'll make the game for the home crowd.

This is becoming Major League of Adu more and more every day.

Since there's no fixed location for the USOC final, I'm assuming it can be moved fairly easily.

My question is, why play the All-Star game at all then, and instead call the Sep. 21st game our All-Star game?

Well, it's not on US soil for one. That may be a sponsor/ABC requirement. It's reasonably common for touring league allstars to play abroad or even at home against foriegn opposition so it may turn out to be a regular thing, but I doubt it will have fan voting or anything.

I'd have to guess because it is not on our home soil and it is a traditional cup Madrid has been doing for years.

This is great fricken stuff....or am I missin' something? I even like the mini-match nostalgia trip commemorating '94. Crap, does that make me a metrosexual?

I see. So, in the spirit of commemoration I'll need to look up my girlfriend from '94....hopefully my wife is into that whole nostalgia thing, too.

Why don't we make the travel easy and hold the USOC at the Bernabeu?

If there was only one team on the field and he made it, I'd agree. But there are two teams suiting up that day and Freddy being added for his marketing value is no different than a MLB manager picking a guy from his team over a more deserving opponent.

This is for the fans and, more importantly, the sponsors. The worst thing they can do is pretend it isn't a dog and pony show.

I see a 5.0 rating on ABC for the All-Star game, because I am from the future!

ok, this is stupid all star match thread number three I've posted on. am I really the only poster who thinks this whole thing; east vs west, old-timers match, adu being pimped for all-star selection, mls all-stars going to madrid in september, is total crap?

I'm not even some weird euro-snop, sure rooting for timmy at man-u is fun, but mls and american soccer are my passions.

but I think this is total crap. I'm calling for a boycott of this whole pile of poo. east vs west is not soccer, its a glorified rec-league game. old timers match, what?

mls, I'm saddened by your inability to come up with anything other than this. I am not watching this stupid match. I'm telling everyone I know who knows I'm a soccer fan not to watch this.

    supporting this is wrong.

    Holy sh** that's funny.

Probably not. But you're probably the only one who felt the need to post it in three threads.

God-for-freaking-bid. We still haven't recovered from Mark Santel making it in 1997.

I say, to spice it up, during the run of play MLS releases 3-4 manic, disease infested monkey or chimps with knives strapped to their hands and a thirst for blood.

See how Freddy and Co. will react to that. Of course Carlos Ruiz will fall down and roll around like he's been stabbed even though the knife weilding primate is 10 yards from him.
