I seriously would wager that we would beat Italy, Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, or the Netherlands in the most unfriendly away stadium imaginable before we could beat Scotland again so soundly. I had my money on the US as slightly better...but not like that. That's the kind of performance you would expect against Antigua and Barbuda...not Scotland.
Obviously its Brazil and on any given day, their B or C teams could be most teams outside the top 10. Having said that, given that they are flying in from Hamburg and that the lineup doesn't seem nearly as frightening as the 2009 CC rosters, I feel like we might be able to put in a decent showing and make the game interesting. And by decent showing and make the game interesting I mean significantly better than that 2-0 game in the Meadowlands in 2010.
It's a much better team than the sides we've looked that dominant against in the past. In fact, since I've been following the national team I can't remember ever seeing us score 5 goals or win by 4 goals against a semi-representative non-minnow nation.
hopefully, the us soccer fan who uses that word is someone who lived in Great Britain for an extended period of time, possibly even their childhood and not just a copying what they heard that crazy english guy in their local soccer bar say.
Man, I've heard American soccer fans completely adopt an English accent while cheering for a team. All of them born in the US. "Come on you XYZ" complete with accent. Was the weirdest thing I think I've ever heard.
The English people present were a little freaked out, especially after one of the Americans started repeating "mate" to them.
Outraged by this ish, I hear it at the local bars all of the time. Yo douchebags, adopting Englishness does not a better fan make.
I guess you're referring to Brad Friedal, who has lived in England for 15 years? That's different than some person who flips on Fox Soccer and sings You'll never walk alone while adopting an English accent. It's like when English people lose their accent in America, that stuff happens. I don't really care if people want to talk like that, but, I think it's funny anyways. It's their life, if they want to pretend they're from somewhere else , the more power to them lol.
Thanks for starting this thread. For future reference, I suggest we use this template that can be modified to downplay the significance of any US win: 1. [For when we beat a CONCACAF minnow by a huge margin, e.g., Barbados 8-0.] "Why is everyone celebrating? I'm embarrassed at the US performance tonight. ___ is an awful team. We should have beaten __ 12-0, so beating them by only 8 goals is a travesty. This win was meaningless and we are terrible." 2. [For when we beat a decent team by a solid margin, e.g., Scotland 5-1.] "Why is everyone celebrating? I'm embarrassed at the US performance tonight. ___ is a C+ side at best. And did you know they didn't even have [journeyman player from mid-level European league] in the squad? We should have beaten ___ 8-1, so a 5-1 win is a travesty. This win was meaningless and we are terrible." 3. [For when we beat an excellent team, e.g., Italy 1-0 in Genoa.] "Why is everyone celebrating? I'm embarrassed at the US performance tonight. ___ is well-known to be a team in decline. Also, they weren't trying that hard. Also, they didn't have [some random decent player] in the squad, so it wasn't really an A-team version of __. Oh, and [friendlies/Confeds Cup/World Cup/life itself] doesn't really matter, so this wasn't a relevant outcome anyway. Instead, it is a travesty. This win was meaningless, and we are terrible." Hope this makes things easier for the haters!
Scottish newspapers. http://sport.stv.tv/football/intern...ahead-to-better-days-after-a-debut-to-forget/ http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/4340917/USA-5-Scotland-1.html Scotland is a decent team right? They are the ones that missed the WC due to Henry's hand ball right? A very good win IMO.
