I lived in NYC during the last WC & went to NH.

GREAT crowd & atmosphere. Noticed they aren't mentioned as one of the places for this year. GREAT memories!!

What happened?? Doesn't it still exist??

They have the most hideous website I think I've ever seen :) So I'll just put a direct link to this video. It's a news report back during the Super Bowl that gives a pretty good look at the bar and viewing area.

I just got this from the Oregon Sports Authority:

Watch the World Cup at Pioneer Square
    Wednesday, June 07, 2006

The Oregon Sports Authority and TAOW Productions have partnered with local international businesses to offer soccer fans the chance to watch the 2006 FIFA World Cup on the big screen in downtown Portland.

Starting on June 9, the World Cup will be shown live at select locations free of charge, culminating with the semifinals and finals shown on a giant LED screen at Pioneer Square on July 4, 5 and 9. The semifinal games on July 4th and 5th begin at Noon, the final on July 9th begins at 11am.

With support from Lufthansa German Airlines, Freightliner, adidas, Comcast and Portland Parks & Recreation, the final viewing events will benefit the Oregon Sports Authority and our work to bring major sports events to Oregon.

In addition to the semifinals and finals at Pioneer Square, all World Cup games will be shown at the Matt Dishman Community Center and St. Johns Community Center, as well as at Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub.

I'd love to see the strip hotels do something like that. They've got big enough ad screens with enough resolution and power to do live video.

No. The ESC and the NJB chapter of Sam's Army have moved to the Stout Pub in Midtown (though many of the ESC and NJB will be in Germany). The original Nathan Hales has closed. They moved to a new location but became a bit too posh.....

And I'm shocked that a list of places for Queens, NYC has not been posted.

Thanks for the info. It's a shame that Nathan's Hale is no longer where it was. It was truly amazing being there for the USA games. I was there for all the first round games & the Mexico game. Went somewhere else for the Germany game (guess that was a mistake).

I lived in Queens & there was a Colombian bar on Northern Blvd. (forgot the name) where I saw the 2002 Gold Cup QF match v Canada. It was a heart-wrenching game but Keller came through for us. Think I might have met you there, nyrmetros?

Maybe, that's a spot to check out for WC games in Queens??

I was at Nevada Smiths NYC for WC 2002. Seemed to be one of the central locations for viewing.... was awsome to walk into a bar at 5AM and see it packed with a bunch of people that were going to go straight to work. Unfortunetly with work I won't be able to make it there I gotta find a bar in midtown that I can take some long "lunches" at.

    t-40 mins...... giddyup

Hi I'm not sure if this is the correct procedure, but:

for Philadelphia, if you could add Elephant and Castle at 1800 Market:

    from another thread:

"In Center City, Elephant & Castle (1800 Market) is showing all games - I will be there today and Monday. They are expecting a group of us for Monday around 11:45, join us if you like. I will report on it's viewing area today"

"They have saved us space in the back room - one big screen and two 32" in the corners."

The St. Louis/Clayton mention of Barrister's earlier in this section is a definite go, but I'd suggest getting there early if you really want a seat. By lunchtime, it was PACKED, and about 80% of the patrons were watching Germany/Costa Rica. Good drink specials and even the ability to watch the game on the front outdoor seating area if you want, and they'll be open early for every WC game.
