Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion No, not quite; last season we sold out 10 out of 15 games. Depends principally on the opponent, the day of the week and the game day weather. The non sellouts were two Sunday games, a Wednesday game and two Saturday games against less compelling opponents while we were struggling, to put it mildly. EDIT: Full disclosure, I initially said "after we were out of contention". Not true, one was in August, but it is true that we were an awful, awful, awful team when that game was played. It would have been a tough sell.
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Right, but what i was getting at is that you have the potential to get a lot more people out to games and can take advantage of that with getting this stadium moving. Selling out 10 of 15 with im sorry to say but a very sub-par team with no REAL stars, and not exactly the greatest stadium in the world isnt bad. your average was only about 300 less than capacity. With a bigger stadium, with a roof or dare i say it even a canopy, you could get a lot more people out. Especially with a better team too. Me personally, i live in Omaha and the only thing stopping me from making the drive is the lack of a real stadium. I feel like a lot of other people feel the same who live outside the metro or the "casual" fans. Point is, i feel like you guys could get a lot more people out there with a better, bigger, soccer specific stadium
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion We've got about 15 months until Opening Kick 2011. Just thought I would throw that out there.
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Something I just noticed as some of the old renderings have popped up in this thread again, is the fact that no matter what rendering we've had, there has always been that "courtyard" type area around the gates. I have to say that, that is consistently one of my favorite parts of the renderings. It makes it seem like we would be a part of the game day environment before ever entering the stadium.
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion yea i hear you. its hard to think a stadium can get done in 15 months...yet philly as gonna have theirs in 14. they broke ground in december 2008. so it CAN be done. and its still possible to open mid season too. im not sure if thats what you were getting at, but its good to know either way. still trying to be optimistic, i want this thing done!!
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion correction, philly will be 15 months. either way, point is it can be done. if things get going now its possible it could be ready to open hopefully by first kick 2011, or at least in the first half of the season
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Yes, they could backload the schedule like they did for Chicago a few years back. Makes for a slow start to the season, but in the end it doesn't matter too much from my perspective. It might matter to the Wizards' FO but it doesn't make a bit of difference to me.
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Pretty sure the idea for the new Wizards stadium was that it would most likely open at mid season in 2011.
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion All Star Break was what I seem to recall from one of the STH events
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Well, it is scheduled to be open in 15 months. But, anytime you are building a structure like that, delays can easily happen.
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Um...no shit, Lurch? Like, indefinitely, maybe? What a jackass. Come on, Cerner and OnGoal.....accept KCK's deal and get this puppy moving so we can put KCMO in the rearview mirror permanently. KCMO's government is so out of whack, it's way past being funny. Like nasty, wet, cold winter weather......
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Wasn't the Funk more or less grudgingly drug into the Bannister deal anyway? I remember him being the single not 100% for sure vote when it came to the council and he sort of wishy washy finally agreed to make it a unanimous decision. I'd really like to see dirt moved in the next few weeks. We already had one false start. At track meets, two will disqualify you entirely... :|
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Start date for Kansas City Wizards stadium construction still unclear, including quotes from the last two posts in this thread.
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion If I am the wizards, I am thinking that I might lose 2 million in lost revenue by waiting out KC to make a better offer, but would stand to have Kansas foot another 10 million of the bill. Since the wizards are not losing the owners obscene amounts of money at the time, there is no reason to not wait for a better offer. This is why I don't see a deal happening. I can understand they were confident a deal was going to happen, but since KCK unexpectedly balked at the plan, I don't see anything happening. (All numbers made up)
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion Ohh come on don't tease us like that!. Throw us a bone here!
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion If by "funny" you mean "depressing," then I'm totally with you. Seriously, how hard would it have been to send a PM or an e-mail to the quoted posters so you could arrange a phone call and actually, y'know, DO SOME REPORTING. It's stuff like this that makes me totally embarrassed at the direction my profession (journalism) is heading. [ /Rant]
Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion So how long before the author of the article signs up for an account to defend himself?

Re: "Close on Both": Wizards Stadium Discussion I hope the new branding exercise includes a change of the logo and a jersey sponsor
