I will give you a specific date next week after i talk to populous again, but we've commissioned 10 new renderings to be produced for marketing purposes. my understanding is that they're scheduled to be done on the 22nd. Like i said, i'll check with them again monday and provide a specific update - maybe during the live draft coverage.

This is why I think it's so much fun being an MLS fan. Those "Eurosnobs" don't know what they're missing. We are blessed to be witness to our league becoming something special. It's like watching a kid grow up. We can say we were there from the beginning...Eurosnobs cannot.

Because we've seen stadium porn for other stadium sites, stadium porn doesn't excite many of us much any more. Stadium porn for us would be seeing concrete poured, or the stadium actually starting to go up and take shape.

Something special because a team is building an 18,500 thousand seats stadium at a dressed up strip mall in Kansas? Lets see if we can fill it for more than 3-4 years in a row if the team continues to play the way it does.

We'll be special when the 'Eurosnobs' get pissed that their talent is going to play in the USA in its early 20s and not its mid 30s, as it is we can't even get the Hispanasnobs to come to our games. We have decades of work to do.

Every fan, everywhere knows the excitement of having or visiting a new stadium or a new beginning or a new player, or the potential of a new season. Thats the one thing that unifies fans no matter where they come from. Don't make this about anything but the Wizards finally getting an appropriate venue to play football after all these years ... that is all it is.

    Regards,

Resident Snob who has witnessed a billion beginnings.

So what?, not all stadiums needs to be created big to be special or created on prime real state.... some stadiums are created near, or very close to slums. Time (and team performances) will create the love for a stadium... not the size or location of the field

    IMHO of course!

I guess someone missed the phrase "We can say we were there from the beginning".....just as NebraskaAddick stated. It's a building process, nobody that I've seen thinks getting this stadium means the Wizards are now on par with European teams with decades (or centuries) of history....this is the beginning....we are there at the beginning....get it??

Re: Wizards Stadium Discussion (Video update)

No I didn't miss the "beginning", there are just a million beginnings .... first Premier League changed the entire game globally, the Bosman ruling, Hillsborough, I've been to games in stadiums smaller than Cab in the top flight in the UK .... fenced in like an animal and surrounded by barbed wire and police dogs.

To say that European fans did not have the appreciation of things being created/born/built/improved/grown is just clearly not the case and it got my back up. Exciting times in MLS for sure, but the game in Europe wasn't mega rich until the TV deals of the 90s, and for the UK especially the Premier League was a new dawn which allowed a nation to rebuild, grow the crowds, put more than one game a week on television and make footballers into superstars.

So yeah I get it ...

We are in for a good thaw over the next week or two, plus I have seen forecasts that include possible T-STORMS next week. Warmer weather plus some rain should help get rid of this ridiculous pile of snow that has been sitting here for 3 weeks. By the time the snow is gone or nearly gone, maybe all t's will be crossed and i's will be dotted on the financing so we can rev up the engines on those earthmovers. :)

Not to mention that the ground will be very soft. There is enough snow to make sure that the ground is moist several feet down.

Re: Wizards Stadium Discussion (Video update)

To be fair, I don't think it's necessarily about European fans as much as Eurosnobs - you know, the ones who disregard MLS because it isn't 'good enough' or possibly even because it isn't 'European' enough. In this sense, since you actually spend time in a MLS message board and obviously do consider MLS to be worth paying attention to, it can't be directed at you.

In this sense I think the point is that Eurosnobs are so caught up with the fact that MLS isn't at the same level and isn't quite the same that they miss out on the part of following MLS which makes it so special now... what makes it worth following outside of the quality of play, caliber of the players and the presence of the league; not only the ability to say "I was there" but also the ability to influence the direction of the league (even in the very small amount of influence we wield individually) makes it that much more special.

In the same respects, following a team which has been around for +100 years is also special and there are reasons beyond the quality and prestige for which people follow European teams... but (at least to me) the real crux of the the whole thing is that people who disregard MLS en lieu of European football are missing out on a chance to be a part of something that isn't available in the European leagues - in this case watching a young league take its first few steps into having its own stadia... and watching a club build its first true home.

    Anyway, that's how I feel.

As long as it doesn't get _too_ soft such that large machinery could get stuck.

    Snob? Maybe.
    Billion? Naw

But, whatever. You missed the point... that we have a special place in history... by being there from day one. Simple concept.

Stadium pr0n is still just pr0n, you have to enjoy it alone. Stadium STADIUM is STADIUM! You get to enjoy that with others. I think you ALL know what I mean. Oh yes.

For you maybe, but as other responses in this thread have shown many people are tired of just renderings and want actual work done.

I'll say that I no longer get excited about the promise of renderings, but will still take a blurry 30x30 pixel image that _might_ be a stadium and I'll go all NCIS "Enhance... enhance..." on its ass and then get all excited b/c I determined that they're going to have some crazy laminar fountain shooting water across the stadium roof.

Actually, now that I think of that, it isn't that bad of an idea - probably expensive, but would be really cool.
