Vinicius can probably tell left from right only on the pitch anyway. But even if he did, this is too much of a complicated topic for most people. The stuff Balague says and many here subscribe to is again simplifying it by employing reverse causality, ignoring confounding influences and spuriousness etc. You can't attribute everything thats happening to him to racism. There are people here who understand statistics and knows what the term explained variance means. Obviously a lot of what is happening to Vini is racism, but that other factors such as individual actions and personality are irrelevant is just not true. What I hate about Vinicius is that he is not correcting his own behaviour in either of the following ways: confront racism head on with knowledge on the topic and use it to educate people or force changes in their behaviour or that of social actors (the "collectivist" way) or adjust his own activities to be more credible, inspirational, or virtuous in any way (the "individualist" way). He just acts like an idiot and then cries racism. Thats it. Its a dog chasing its tail kind of dynamic and he keeps making everything worse in the whole problem.
When monkey noises were directed to Yamal at the Bernabeu, Vinicius neither walked off to have the match interrupted nor say a word about it. When his team mate and captain embraces the same politician that said Vinicius should just leave the country if he doesn't like it, and goes with him to dinner, I don't hear a word about it. When club legends are vocal supporters of said individuals, and have their hands in the youth coaching staff, I don't hear a word about it. Social justice shouldn't be about what's good for yourself but also a matter of self reflection and understand where YOU can do better. And none of this has happened within our own house and organization, despite Real Madrid being very very much the house of all that troubles Vinicius in this country. Be aware that when Real Madrid speaks about political issues the club does this with a very very heavy stomach considering where it stands.
That's why sports people/orgs in general shouldn't be role models. Just enjoy the football and entertainment value. Everything else is mostly BS.
He says this, yet he felt he was fit to write an article about what Vinicus is going through. I mean... No wonder that article reads like such a self-pat on the back. Look, Vinicius will have to take some self accountability for his actions. Not everyone who criticises his behaviour is doing so for racist reasons, and people who straightforwardly convolute the criticisms with racism are not helping him either. I fully support Vinicius arguing with the officials for not doing anything when the stadium is hurling racist abuse at him. We have anti-racism protocols. Put them in place ffs. Stop the game. But I think it's also true that Vini was allowed to develop a bit of a main character syndrome. Flopping on the pitch when it's clear you just lost the ball? Letting your team trying to fix your mistakes while you sit on the pitch shouting at the ref? Nobody wants to see that. This is a team sport. I hope Xabi can reel him in, keep him focused and hungry. We all know what he can do when he's in form. But make no mistake, this will be a crucial season for him. This season will determine what his future in footbal will look like. So it's in his best interest to "play ball" with Xabi.
I think the issue is that we haven’t seen any indication that Vinny is changing or developing his maturity. Collectively we all hope he will, but it’s looking like it won’t based on the past year or so. I doubt Vinny will listen to Xabi. At some point the two of them will clash and it’s going to get ugly. Question is; who will get support from the club?
I look at it from a different angle. It's not that Vini has been constantly like this and that he's just not maturing. It's that he's been like this for only the last year or two. So I'm hoping he can screw his head back on. He is a spectacular player, we all know that, but he's been simultaneously subpar and annoying for a while now. Last game was a decent reminder of how decisive he can be. Hopefully it's a sign of return to focus and success. I know that's very optimistic and the odds are stacked against it though.
I wouldn't put much stock into Vini's last match considering he came on fresh against a tired relegation level side. Call me when he does that against a Barca or an Athleti.
Another very clinical goal by Vinicius. Almost the same goal as a week ago, a very calm dribbling the ball with defenders hanging all over him but instead of going full speed and power, he makes an easy pass into the corner placing the ball where nobody can do anything but watch it roll in. Carrying the team again despite all the criticism, game winniig goal in a game we lose without him. Comes in as a a sub last week in a dicy situation and completely puts the game to bed. Decisive.
I think a lot of people take how great he is for granted. Fact is, on his day he's unstoppable and can pull a rabbit from a hat.
I think some people just don't like his antics. His quality is and should be undisputed, unless one has zero ball knowledge.
He's a fantastic player but simply not good enough to the point where he can allow himself to be a total diva.
Great goal! I hope he continues to get on the score sheet. Were their other things he could do better? Yes. But man that goal was ridiculous. I don't believe it was luck, for me it was world class.
He's a become a diva and proving himself to be a good enough player that he's totally worth it. Xabi tried to get slick by dropping him to the bench but had to back track due to the fact the second game of the season against a relegation side getting a sticky, meanwhile Vini empbraced the super sub roll to a world class level and made the anyone supporting the decision eat their words. Very next game Vini's back in the starting lineup and gets the game winner.
Hey I don't know what your into, it's really none of my business but I don't judge. I did however find this and though you might like it.
