Okay then, I've played a few of those sites.

Naturally the official prem one is the most widely used by us, and is actually quite good.
However, it's far from 'the best' and has it's drawbacks, mainly the financial end of things and the absolutley asinine awarding of bonus points.Which are doubled if your captain bags a few.Often times, the awarding of the points bears little to no reflection to wha tactually happened on the pitch.

I played the fox one for many years, but opted out this season as they upped their price to $40 to play. It's not that I'm cheap, it's just that with so many free sites out there, I thought upping it to $40 was taking the p1ss just a tad too much.
However, this one would get my vote as 'best site'.

I played the Yahoo one for a few seasons on the mod board, as that's the one they use.
Absolutley pish.Terrible site and full of nothing but stats that are translated into points - it's like looking up a rothmans of baseball.Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole anymore.

CYKI is pretty much the same as the official one, except you have only one sub.

No idea on the others, perhaps more posters will chime in and fill in the blanks.

    Scott,

Check out Michel's website, 1800-WorldCup.com. Several of us contributed to a section where he discusses some pros and cons of various fantasy soccer games.

I have been playing the Times' "PlayTheGame" fantasy game this year, and really like it, namely because it is similar to the American sports fantasy games I enjoy, i.e. draft-based rather than salary cap based. Rooney can be on only one person's team per league, for instance, rather than every team buying him if they choose. And scoring is rotisserie style, with 10 categories determining the league's standings over the whole of the season. Five to 20 teams per league.

There is no "live draft" option (at least there wasn't this year). Players are allocated based on your rankings list, 1 through 250 or 300 or so. Draft position (or "allocation") is randomized, then run on a set date based on how you ranked them, snake style (1-2-3 .... 8-9-10-10-9-8 ..... etc. for a 10-team league), until your squad has 20 players. 14 starting, 6 on the bench. Daily roster moves allowed, and unlimited pickups of players who are "free agents" (players who go undrafted or who get transferred into the league). There are starts limits on each position (e.g. 38 for GK position) so that you don't win the league by brute force, starting three different players in one position on a Saturday/Sunday/Monday.

I'm just not a big fan of salary cap games in general (I did fantasy.premierleague.com in 06-07) ... would never choose to do one when a good draft-based option is available.

The ESPN soccernet fantasy games are pretty good. I like it because it has multiple domestic leagues. Thats if you are into La Liga and Serie A.
The official Fantasy game thru EPL is very good.
If you are looking for paid games, the daily telegraph, and the mall are the best. Lots of money. But if you are new to Fanatsy gaming, try simple games like fadoirishpub.com fanatsy league. You can get your feet wet and its free. Also, soccerfanstasygames.com is good and its simple.
My advice is try a game where the scoring is a simple 3 points for a goal , 2 for an assist, clean sheet is 3 points, minus points after defenders give up 2 goals. Start off slow, learn the fantasy set-up, then go big.

I play (a lot!) of the official PremierLeague.com FF. The Yahoo one isnt a bad game either, but my favorite of all time was the Telegraph FF, back in the early 2000s, before they started charging for it.

Clan is right about the bonus points; they do tend to go to a few regular favorites, but I guess thats part of the game.

Can't say Ive ever played a draft based game - it does sound interesting tho! Might go and look up a little more info about it... :D

YAHOO is my fave - unlimited adds/drops, no subs, player values rise (or drop) so your team can become worth more than $100,000,000 in no time....

I've tried a few of those and some not mentioned like that monthly one ran by one of the uk papers. Do people remember the one where you tried to pick the worst players?

I stick with the official one (also play IKTS there) and CYKI. I use the official one for the draft Bigsoccer game and the CYKI to play without that restriction. Both could use serious improvements in initial player pricing, price movement over the season especially the huge imbalance between number of player increasing vs decreasing in price, how injuries and injury timing interact with pricing, failure to adjust pricing on player transfer to other Prem team and other issues that artificially lower the true available player pool, the silly captain "feature", biased bonus awards, lack of competitive balance across positions, no meaningful use for dmids, etc. There are other problem specific to those of us trying to use these games for a draft game that they really are meant to work.

Having said all that those are still the best free prem fantasy games online.:(

Played the official Barclay's for two years now and it is great. At midseason there is the fantasy cup where all the teams play against another team randomly selected. The winner advances to the next round and plays another randomly selected team that won in the previous round.

ESPN is ok. No prizes and there are transfer limits. Last year I ran out of transfers and did not have Ronaldo on my squad. It was like watching a sinking ship. They did have the fantasy cup like Barclays which is great.

Fox Soccer is ok. They had the same format for EPL and MLS last year. This year for MLS fantasy they screwed up a good scoring system. They made the goal keeper clean sheet worth the same as two goals by either a forward or midfielder. So the goalkeeper always becomes the captain for double points. The EPL 08 has not started yet on fox soccer but hopefully they keep the old points system.

Yahoo is all stats and no prizes

I saw the recommendations for Telegraph and CYKI and they look really good. I will join up with them. This was a great thread to learn about them.

Yeah it is a system I like. I've used it for 15yrs in my american football leagues so I've got some high hopes for this one. We'll see both look better than some of the recent ones I've tried. Playing 4 leagues (VSR/Prem, CYKI, Guardian,Times), the IKTS picks, and the CL ones should keep me busy this season. :)

I played Yahoo for the last three years, and was mildy active in the TeamTalk community last year.

It's pretty cool, but it takes a ton of time to be very competitive.

The use of statistics in the game can get a bit overwhelming. I mean you get pts for corners taken, blocks, shots, etc.

I also saw one post that stated the you can easily get a team worth muich more than your alotted budget, but that misleading because when you only get what you paid for a player when you sell them.

I'm playing the BPL league exclusively this year to try and change things up a bit.

In order for a league to be formed, you will need a minimum of 5 Team Managers, up to a maximum of 20. Use the controls below to add your managers, by entering their Email addresses, one at a time and click the add button.
    -----------------

I went to create a league but we need e-mail addys first to set it up, so I just joined the League Matcher.

Alright. I sent you a message with my email

Sasha Juniors will join up when I hear back.

It is still pretty hard to figure out the starting line ups from the preseason to help with draft selection.

The Times game look really good.

So, how did your draft turn out?

I drafted 4th in my league, got about less half the players I actually wanted, which is probably as well as can be expected I suppose.20 player teams is a lot.

Anyway, I was looking over the undrafted players and I've already put a bid in on two.

    48 hour waiting period...then what?

I did ok in the draft but I need to do some post draft work to fill in some holes since I am stacked at some positions but weak in others. My biggest problem is I got too many injured/suspended guys like C.Ronaldo, Bosingwa, Cahill, Nani...
Still I love the fact that I got Torres, RVP, Lescott, essien, etc. Not bad for the first time on this game. I am annoyed at some of the position restrictions though Since when is Geremi not able to cover at RB, same for Diarra, and plenty of other nitpicks.

Yeah, I just ran into that problem with LM.
That particular restriction is a bit lame.

Have you read the scoring rules yet...sheesh...going to need to read that a few more times to come to terms with it....

I drafted Ronaldo, the man on the bench for the months of August and September

In case anyone wants a squad to transfer freely with without an alias, I set up a mini-league on the Times site

It seems like a good game comparable to the official EPL.
