So with Aidan's transfer, does that mean he won't play in the Olympics?

That's unfortunate. You would think it could be written into his contract as it's most likely a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Also why has nobody in the media asked this question?

Why would it have anything to do with his contract? It’s a decision between Morris and Middlesbrough, just as it would have been between him and the Crew had he not transferred.

In any event, while people in here think this means he won’t be at the Olympics, articles I’ve seen about the transfer assume he will. It’s true that none of this comes from the source (Middlesbrough), but come on, the actual transfer was only just announced. You can’t realistically ask a team what their plans are for a player they don’t yet have on the roster.

I remember Bruce Arena missing the first match in Crew history because he was with the Olympic team. It can be done if people are willing.

He left the camp for the U-23 team to go to England. Why is that not a legitimate question?

Fine, but who should be the ones asking it of Middlesbrough management? It’s unrelated to the Crew. The US doesn’t have much of a national soccer media that covers US national teams full time. And the Olympics is something of a national team oddity. I’d suggest probing some Middlesbrough discussion boards for answers, and certainly to start reading this guy’s articles:

I’m not that Morris is even considered an obvious starter for Middlesbrough, at least not yet. Sounds like there’s a bit of depth at the position.

I feel like our media should have been the one asking Aidan this before he left. I feel like they dropped the ball. You act like no one should care once Aidan is gone. I'm sure there are other Crew fans that would have been interested in this information and would love to watch him play in the Olympics. I feel like the obvious question was never asked. Maybe Aidan's answer would have been that he doesn't know, but it definitely should have been asked by our media.

Let's just say that I care a lot less now that he's gone. It would be nice to see him play in the Olympics, but he's not our player anymore, so his absence from club isn't part of the equation. Schulte, on the other hand, considering Bush's injury, is of more immediate interest to me.

It's possible Morris didn't know his status when the transfer went through. Boro started pre-season training last week, so he's in the midst of that. In any event, the roster submission deadline is July 3, so we'll know soon enough.

Personally, I'd much rather that local media ask questions about potential summer transfers in, than worrying about Morris's status with the Olympic team. But that's just me.

My question is have you considered not letting Schulte play in the Olympics ?

Watching this it looks chaotic. I actually prefer Nancy ball.
Anyone else have choppy video? I’ve tried Roku and Apple TV. Both choppy.

NBC4 just showed Middlesboro highlights during their sportscast. This might be the first time they've ever showed European soccer highlights from a game in Europe.

Remember the talk about how the new stadium would be a shitshow because there might be another event at the same time and Crew attendance would suffer because there'd be 8k at a Clippers game or a concert at Nationwide?

All the talk about how the parking app was confusing and nobody could figure it out?

Or what about the talk from earlier this year about "HOW DARE MLS schedule a home game on July 3rd! Nobody is gonna show up!"

    Well...about that.

Ironically, we didn't need the Crewzers marching in parades, promoting the team. We didn't need autograph alley...sure that stuff was nice, but the real trick was a winning team in a beautiful downtown stadium. It's definitely ok to miss MLS 1.0, but we also have to remember how tacky all that stuff was with the music during the games, etc. We knew we needed to mature and evolve in order to remain competitive...and here we are. The class of the league.

And here I am, being told that kids don't go to Crew games any more because it's too expensive and the players aren't recognizable because they don't do autographs after games.

19k on a typical night these days. Players being recognized while being out on their own.

    Glory Days indeed.

If I were the owner of a downtown watering hole or restaurant, I wouldn’t be happy about a Crew match, a Clippers game, and/or a concert at Nationwide going on at the same time. With one’s establishment being full from patrons from each of the other events, there are other potential patrons going home. Customers who would patronize my business if the events were spread out over different nights instead of stacked up on the same night.

But it's also gonna be full, whether it's one team or a mix. If you're bar staff and you're near 100% with standing room only, do you really care if people aren't being served? Because of the proximity to sporting venues, people are probably more likely to come back than if its some bar in Dublin or Hilliard.

I may be way off, but something (plus a bartender) tells me Crew fans generally patronize businesses the most. The Clippers are probably the most family-friendly of the three and their fans may patronize for weekend games, but having a slew of kids in tow may complicate the situation. The CBJ generally play during cold/crummy weather. Both of those teams play a lot of weeknight games, so the fans probably won't be down there several hours before and hanging out for an hour or three after.

Yeah, the CBJ have their party on the plaza before the home opener, but that's just one game out of over 40 (if you include preseason.) What's the plaza look like on a Tuesday or Thursday at 5:45pm, just a bit over an hour before doors?

We've seen the north lot tailgates on weeknight games. There's definitely a huge increase in activity for those weekend games in the summer.

It's also fun to stop and watch some of the Clippers game en route to the Crew game.

I'm not sure theres much overlap with the Clippers or blue jackets. I know talking to the guy who owns Warios, the crew fans are the ones who most frequent his shops. He was surprised at how much we out pace the jackets fans coming out.

And these businesses might rather they be all on one night, you can just pay to have all your staff there that one day instead of multiple days of say 75% of your staff. And these businesses are probably grateful to have anyone come in given that downtown is a ghost town most days. Even in the short north, no one stays out that late or for a long period of time anymore.
