Alicante vs Real Madrid | Copa del Rey First Leg Date: 19 December 2007 Time: 2045 CET Venue: Estadio José Rico Pérez About Alicante CF Plays in Segunda División B - Group 3 ... that's all I got err... Discuss?
Give the squaddies a go! ------------------Dudek--------------- Salgado------Metz-------Heinze----Torres ------------------Gago----------------- ----Robben-----------------Drenthe---- ---------------Baptista----------------- ---------Saviola------Soldado----------- Subs Codina Marcelo Pepe Diarra Nieto Balbao Higuain
It would be interesting to see what team schuster puts out there. I cant see ruud and raul and sneijder and robinho playing this one. Good chance to play soldado and saviola up front and put drenthe on the left. Plus the team sheet will give a good indication of the players playing in the classico. I say dudek salgado, metz, heinze, torres (or if henize is to play the classico than put torres in the middle and put marcelo on the left). In front of them put guti, gago, balboa, drenthe. It looks more and more that the beast will play the classico so no harm in playing gago. Guti hasnt had many games in the last weeks so he is fresh. Up front saviola and soldado or higuain. I dont know much about our opponents. But i think that whatever team we put out there can beat them given that they dont slack off and hope for somebody to pull out a bit of magic. Hey you know what i just noticed that even after resting all our main players we still have a VERY good second team. Amazing. Testament to the quality of the squad really. But there is no point in looking good on paper if you cant get out of 2nd gear on the pitch. We should be beating teams like these but anything other than a loss would be satisfactory. I really cant imagine us losing to this team. Hala madrid. Catalans beware.
Little bit of info about Alicante: 3rd place Segunda B (29 pts). They are 10 points behind the first place, though. Last results: Gramenet 0-0 Alicante Alicante 5-0 Sabadell Levante B 0-2 Alicante Alicante 0-1 Villareal B Espanyol B 1-1 Alicante As for Madrid, I hope they care about the game...
2007-08 Cup run (all matches played away): -- 1a Eliminatoria v SD Eivissa-Ibiza 2-0 -- 2a Eliminatoria v Universidad de Las Palmas CF 1-0 -- 3a Eliminatoria v Talavera CF 2-0 Alicante CF have never been promoted to the Primera, thus no Liga history against Real Madrid. Couldn't find any past Copa meetings. So it's likely the two clubs have never met in a competative match.
If Heinze is to be LB against Barcelona, I would rather he got at least another 45 minutes under his belt against Alicante.
Chances are soldado won't play but Higuain will partner saviola. It makes more sense to play higuain who is higher in the pecking order that soldado but hasn't had any game time. Guti might have a run out as he hasn't been playing lately and heinze will put in a full 90. robben will also be given no more than 70min in my opinion given his lack of match fitness and recent injury scare. alicante will be motivated so taking this game lightly will be folly on our part. I do want us to be competing for the cup final so I hope the team does well.
I would really be expecting a lot of the players that will be playing to be from Castilla, it doesn't matter that we're still top if we lose to Barca, they will gain a huge psychological gain which we shouldn't give them, we need to be 100 percent and that means not risking many of our first team players.
i hope soldado has the game of his life, scores a goal by dribbling the entire defense, score a chilena, and give 3 assists. plz god make it happen!
haha achilles, when i first read your post i almost fell off my seat laughing, i thought you said salgado! will the glass ornament with dutch love return, i jus hope hes ready 4 farsa, gives a good option off the bench i think it was marca that said we played alicante once before like in the 50s, and lost! friendly match though
Um nuff..... Does everybody get the cheese and grater joke but me? Wth is that? I even wiki'd Alicante to see if they were famous for cheese, but it doesn't say cheese anywhere. I'm so curious, I needs to know.
I'm not sure about the cheese reference, maybe just that RM's sharp attack will grate them like cheese or something like that?...what I want to know is, where did that Horsey avatar come from, freakin classic!
Good question. I think the famous "queso mecanico" (clockwork cheese) was Albacete under the leadership of Benito Floro. I'll admit this one is over my head as well.
That is a fearsome team for the earlier rounds of the Copa. I'd like to see: -------------Dudek Salgado--Metz---Heinze---Torres -------------Gago------------- Balboa------Guti-------Drenthe ----------Saviola--- -----------------Soldado I'd keep Pepe fresh for Barca and see how things go to start off.
