The question is simple. Who is going? I need football and will most certainly be there. Anyone else willing to brave the 'conditions'?
2 central american teams will be going at it. U my friend are truely brave. I'd much rather pump gas STANDING OUTSIDE!
Stop by Lot 8 were the Barra usually hold our tailgate. There will be a few of us there enjoying a couple of cold ones.
Re: Re: Alianza V. Montagua -- Who's Going? Have fun at the game...AND KEEP MOVING! When you leave the tailgate, remembe to run serpentine patterns to the gate. Oh wait...I think you guys usually stumble toward the gate with a kind of serpentine pattern anyway.
I'll be at RFK this Saturday. Though I love chaos... I think our little Barra contingent will be well-behaved (as much as we can) and just watch the ESs and Hondurans mix it up.
A few activities you can do to entertain yourselves at other people's expense: When the inevitable fight breaks out in the stands and the people around you turn away from the game to watch the fight, coordinate amongst yourselves to explode as though a goal were scored. Enjoy the look on your neighbor's faces when they figure out you're screwing with them. Consistently mock players for faking injury, regardless of the team. When they miraculously arise from their seemingly inexorable pain, coordinate amongst yourselves to spring to life screaming, "MILAGRO! DIOS MIO! MILAGRO!" Randomly chant "Culedo" (spelling?). It's fun to mock the only chant that the crowds will get going outside of team names. If either team's fans are capable of getting a "Si Se Puede" chant going, immediately try to get your section to chant "No Se Puede" back at them. Hilarity ensues. Otherwise, just randomly chant this at stumbling drunks in your vicinity. Mockingly cheer for the refs, ball boys/girls, and horrible plays by either team. Chanting "OLE!" at opportune moments is very fun. For instance, if the fans of a particular team happen to string together a series of "OLEs" for a string of passes and, inevitably, the string ends with a horrible give-away, then stand up and scream "OLE" at the give-away at the top of your lungs. Hilarity ensues, again. Finally, I like to make fun of people who are talking on their cell phones, during the game. Every recent central American friendly I've been to, there is always some guy in the section narrating the entire game over a cell phone to someone in a far off land. Attempt to insert commercials into his play-by-play..."Fuera la cancha...BUDWEISER, es para usted"...."Western Union, patrocinador officional del Mundial 2002 del Culedos." Enjoy, Tim
That's a great deal of thought and effort to be a pain in the a$$. I think I'll just enjoy hanging with a few Barra bros, eat some grilled stuff, watch a few fights, drink some beer and hopefully see a good game.
Why the stereotyping? For those "newbies" to regional soccer, Alianza and Motagua are two of the most popular teams in our region. In addition, Motagua is coached by Ramon "El Primitivo" Maradiaga. Voted by FIFA as 1 of 20 best Technical Director's (that's coach to you newbies) in the world. Although Motagua has more of a winning tradition, Alianza is more than capable of holding their own with many MLS teams. So before we crack jokes on teams that seem weaker than those we see here in the States, one should know that some leagues in Central America (Honduras and Costa Rica) have been voted more competitive than the MLS. So if you go, just enjoy what should be a good game. Also, keep in mind that not all Central Americans act foolish at RFK. Just remember how the Hondurans behaved for the WCQ against the USMNT. Classy!!
I think the word you're looking for is culero (at least if you're trying to make them the butt of a joke, so to speak).
Thanks for the info Kromer523. You're correct most of the "fans behaving badly" stuff is overblown and it truly borders on stereotyping. As you noted the Hondurans were very classy during qualifiers. I certainly expect an entertaining game. As I stated earlier in the post I would like to know a few top players to watch. I know Reyes played for Montagua and I have met few of that team's fans in the Barra.
If anybody's interested, Mr.Red&Black is bringing the leftover booze from his wedding to this game. Obviously there were no Barra members present at the nuptials.
well the wife and i are members and we did our best, but we were only two of us. there is still a ton of booze, this may call for the grillmaster!
I hear you bro... Besides, with my rep in the Sallie community, I'd be the first Latin to be lynched at RFK So no...I won't be anywhere near DC...I'll be cleaning my car getting rid of the carcass in the chassis of the vehicle
Allright folks, If you're heading down to todays game, make sure and stop by Lot 8 where the Barra usually holds its tailgate. Red&Black, Begbie, myself and a few Barra Brothers will be down there soaking up the atmosphere.
It was fine day with absolutely no problems. I got to meet Ivan McKinley thru Mr. Red&Black. It was kinda of funny, because while we were standing in line to buy tickets, Rob goes up to this tall guy and says hello. As he comes back I asked who that was. He says "that's Ivan McKinley, don't you recognize him?" I said, "whoa, no way. He's to tall to play for United" He's a real nice guy, said he'd stop by the Barra tailgate next week. BTW the game sucked. United would have smoked either one of those two teams. The highlight of the day was Me, Rob, Begbie and two other dudes sneaking into Section 135, as they had closed half the stadium ala USA/Germany.
