Algarve Cup: Going, Getting There, Logistics I think I am going to the Algarve Cup this year. Can someone help me with info, please? I will be travelling from the US and was wondering if I should fly into Lisbon and rent a car or take a bus to the Algarve region? Or should I fly into Faro and arrange for travel to get to the games? I would be grateful for suggestions on where to stay and what to do. I understand it is a beautiful region with lots of outdoor activities. I don't think ticket availability to the games will be a problem... or is there something special I should know. I did see one of the games from 2000 on satellite and there was barely a crowd. Besides the one or two reporters from the US that might be there, I might be the only male fan going just for the games (and vacation)! Thank you.
Re: 2003 ALGARVE CUP SCHEDULE Both of the sites list Scotland as a member of Group C. When did they get added? Back on 30 November, this article was put out: *** England, Scotland and Italy will miss this years Algarve Cup. Both England and Scotland are bitterly disappointed in not being invited to participate in one of the most prestigious women's tournaments of the year. The only group left available to any of the sides was Group C, containing Portugal, Greece and Wales. Portugal did not want to play in a group that contained strong sides such as England, Scotland or Italy. Which left all three teams without a place at next years event. All three countries are said to be unhappy with the decision. Both England and Scotland are left not having a competitive game to play until 2004. England were recently knocked out of the World Cup by France. England and Scotland may now be forced to arrange a tournament themselves for 2003. *** Scotland beat Portugal 2-0 in a friendly held 20 December. That certainly shouldn't have encouraged the Portuguese to add the 'Bonnie Lasses' to the mix...
There is no mention of Scotland here, but there is of the Irish Republic! http://www.fifa.com/fifa/media/UPC_A_WOMEN.htm
Yes, unless there's been a last-minute switch, it seems the US Soccer people goofed. Certainly the Irish FA is under the impression their women will be at the Algarve Cup.

Canada will make the semifinals in China. As to France, they will be very difficult in group play in China too. Let's see when germany and france play on April 17 in Paris.

Loule or Faro? I originally saw the Championship Game being held in Faro, but now it's Loule (which is close to Faro). Anyone know for sure?
Re: Loule or Faro? When it comes to the Algarve Cup, nobody knows anything for sure. For such a hugely prestigious tournament, nobody seems to be in charge, and their public relations is non-existent. Contradictory information appears in different news outlets, there is no official website, and almost all of the information that is available comes from the websites of the various participating national teams.
Re: Re: Loule or Faro? this is as official as it can get for the tourney: http://www.fpf.pt/actividades/calendario_mundialito2003.html the finals will be in loule elaine
