Will they play each other twice? Or do Sweden and Germany get to play as well? ;)

The Algarve Cup is a joke and a load of bull***t, i understand why China, USA and Germany are in the tournament. But how on Gods green Earth did Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland get in insted of England? The weaker teams are laughable. Iceland, Poland, Portugal and Ireland? And what really got me made is pi**ed off is that FRANCE are in there to!!! Which football government set up this stupid tournament did not include England? We were one of the 3 best European teams in the China World Cup and not only have we missed out on the Olympics but we are yet again not included in the Algarve Cup, no wonder why you Amercians have lost touch on Kelly Smith's post WUSA career, she should be winning all the glamorous awards and be rated the best female footballer on the planet but yet again England 'the mother of the game' are being held back and overlooked in the tournaments they should be included in and they are not!! If it wasn't for England there would be no soccer!!

Ireland? I guess Emma Byrne will be injoying a rare international experience with the big guns then:rolleyes:

If you knew your history at all, the tournament belongs to the Scandinavian teams. They set this tournament up a long time ago as a way to train outside of their frigid home countries in Feb/Mar, and it grew to accomodate more teams. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland will be inked into the groups before the US, China, and Germany are even invited, much less England.

Before you blow a gasket, you might want to check England's schedule. They have UEFA qualifying and are thus unable to participate in the Algarve Tournament. Your tantrum, was entertaining, if incredibly off base.

Sweden, Denmark and Norway are arranging the thing and always invited Finland (due to the co-operation between the Nordic FAs and for historical and cultural reasons) and four more teams to match and challenge their abilities.
Well that is the team for the weaker group and are invited to match and challenge the Portuguese co-host abilities.
This is not official Championship it is just like Four Nations Cup (arranged by China) it is a friendly tournament and the governing body setting it up is either the Norwegian, Danish or Swedish FA (they arrange it on a rotating schedule and I don’t remember who it is 2008) with the Portuguese FA assisting (Portugal fix the playing fields the Scandinavian organizer everything else).

I tend to agree that France should have been dropped and replaced by England, more due to what the French keeper did to Hanna Ljungberg in Algarve 2006 and how the French FA punished her (or rather how they didn’t) than the small difference in quality between the French and English WNT.

Women soccer continues to grow by leaps and bounds, there are so many good teams now as compared to years past. Surely England could arrange their own mini-tournament right at home and hence get the best out of it at a suitable time in a year.

Well, Algarve is a great tournament and I wish to watch it some year.. but it's impossible this season, though, because of my work.

It will be really fun to se were the team stands compared to last season, and especially the teams not participating in WC last year. I hope Finland takes several steps forward this season, they have been going for it for some years now but never really managade to be a top team. Too bad they didn't made it to the WC.

    Only two months left now!
