I had no idea, but I saw a cd of his in the bargain bin at the used cd store. I thought of buying it as a novelty, but just coulnd't bring myself to it. He was in his long hair, beard mode on the cover.

It was probably "Ginger", the cd he was hocking a few years ago. I don't have first hand knowledge of it myself, but I hear it makes a wonderful coaster.

First, a reason to NOT buy it, then a reason to consider buying it.

When I heard the CD, I forced myself to remember that he had a good run at the 94 World Cup, and was apparently a serviceable defender in Serie A. It was an important first step toward getting my ears to forgive me.

And whenever he scores against the Fire (which is about the only team he ever scores on) I remember the CD and can boo him 10 times louder. So his musicianship does serve a purpose.

    It doesn't suck.

It's not great, but it's better than you'd think.

That's a summary of what I could've said... I would put it down as not very good, but you can easily hear something worse just by turning on your radio and playing with the dial for a couple of seconds.

The worst had to be the song "Kickin' Balls." Songs about sports are just lame.

With the possible exception of "Centerfield," I would say this is correct. It's probably easier to come up with a "Top Five Pop Songs About Death" than a big five about sports...

Sorry, but I can't think of this song without thinking of the German soccer team's mega '78 hit, "Buenos Diaz, Argentina." That thing was plastered all over the radio while I was living there.

I have not one, but TWO Alexi Lalas CD's....and you know what? There's a reason he's still playing soccer.

But seriously, it's not as bad as it could be.

I bought the cd when it came out because I just had to know. It was awful. Although his brother (and former Rev) Gregg is actually quite good. He played at a bar I was at once. I guess one got all the soccer talent and one got all the music talent.
