I don't understand all of the allocation rules, but his resume does not read to me to be allocation worthy.

Maybe DC will use the Convey allocation? Was Galvan Rey or Glenn worth allocations. Stewart? Hong? He seems to have the potential to return to Europe in a few years and allow a team to retain the allocation. Never seen him play, but maybe he'll help out if Nelsen heads to Europe? There are some allocations building up across the league and I don't think MLS is going to be buying to many high price foreigners for a while.

Well, I THINK I have MLS acquisition rules figured out. If a team wants to use an allocation on him, they can. If more than one team wants to use an allocation on him, the highest ranking allocation takes priority. If nobody wants to use an allocation on him, and only one team is interested, he can go to that team as a discovery or a returning nats pool player for free. If no teams are willing to use an allocation and more than one team is interested (the scenario I see as most likely), he goes into the weighted lottery.

(Cross posted from the Crew boards because I was too damn lazy to rewrite it :) )

Sounds right. So its probably NOT how MLS will do it. You might send your e-mail to Garber and see if he can follow the same process twice in a row.

Oh come on. You're just saying that so you won't get picked up in the expansion draft.

Wait a second: Columbus did not want to use an allocation on Szetela, but since they won the lottery, they want to trade him + some overpriced stiffs to Metro for a package that includes the leading candidate for league MVP (Guevara), plus last year's #2 draft pick (Clark), plus the league's best player under 20 (Gaven)? Did Danny's value in the eyes of Columbus increase exponentially after they saw his charisma on television?

    Pigs Eye (St. Paul),
Where would he fit in DC's starting lineup? Center, left, or right D?

Well, my guess is that he'll be in the center so we all dont' have to see David Stokes again. Nellie is out due to injury for a month at least, and his contract is up at the end of the season. I'd expect this to give way to Moreno going back into midfield. That would give way for Freddy to start as everyone wants, and quite honestly after his last couple of matches he does look the part. I'm just guessing here...

You know with all the allocations floating out there, the 4 more entering the league with Chivas and SLC, and 2 more you suck at the end of this year......the value and use of allocations are going to have to be redefined or else they will go unused. I think this is the time to start that.....let Yi go to DC, who needs the roster help anyway.

Obviously, I don't know, obviously, and obviously.

An allocation is something you use BEFORE you acquire the player, not something that is assessed AFTER you have had the player and figured out how good he is.

Glenn was an allocation (the Metros used the Mathis allocation). I think they would have been able to "discover" him, but Chicago was after him too. Metro was willing to use an allocation on him. Chicago apparently was not.

Yes. With our lack of depth he could play anywhere although we are desperately short in the center with Nelsen out and Petke playing rather poorly.
