A move to a Vancouver whitecaps level team (at best) and we’ve got posts saying “he could go to sporting club or Porto”

    lol. Never change.

let’s let him get a single minute in a first team pro game and go from there!!

Are you mad because you were wrong about him only being good enough for USL?

I want him to play at Barcelona!!!!

Perhaps you should understand the level of the bottom of liga nos. Seems like you don’t.

Serious question: how does a move to the (I think at least) worst team in Portugal prove anything? He needs to show he can play against grown ups and until then, he hasn't proven anything.

It's good league/level for him. But he has to prove on the field that he is capable of playing in the modern game.

It just proves that there was interest from leagues better than USL. I was right about him being sold to a league of similar or better quality, than Eredivisie. That is all.

Vizela is playing in a cup game for Estrela Amadora. Not sure if Mendez is on the bench but he's not starting.

I do think Portugal is a better league however, using the league as a barometer of level is just wrong. The bottom of the leagues outside the top 5-6 are usually worse than MLS (aka USL).

Transfermarkt isn't a perfect barometer but FC Vizela's TOTAL team value is $8m. That's a bit better than any USL team-- but way worse than anyone in MLS.

There's also using league/team as proof of how good a player is just off too. He was at Ajax and clearly had zero chance to even make a first team bench. How you play has to matter at some point.

Big game for Vizela, today. They play Sporting CP, away, for their first game of the season. Hope Alex can get some playing time.

Game is at 3:15 pm ET, on Gol TV.

Alex really hasn't seen much of the ball. He had a couple of completed passes and 1 giveaway.

Goalkeeper for Vizela is really keeping them in the game. He's made 2 good saves, so far.

Mendez involved in the attack for Vizela but it ends with the receiving striker called offside.

Mendez wins the ball in Vizelas box and passes and successfully passes it upfield to an offensive player.

Half-time. Score is still 0-0. Sporting had a missed PK.

Subbed out on the 67th minute. Score was 2-0 Sporting, when he came off.

I'd give him a 6/10 rating. He completed some passes and won the ball, a few times, for his team.

No problem. Hope he can improve. His teammates didn't really play any better than he did.
