Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the same Alex who was rated as the best playmaker in the Brazilian league at one point? Bit of a shame to see him go to Turkey, although I imagine they are paying a lot of salary and will be in the Champions League.

why do you think that it is a shame for him to play for Fenerbahçe? Fenerbahçe is the biggest club of Turkey and one of the biggests of Europe. Pierre van Hooijdonk is playing for Fenerbahçe, Ortega came and played for Fenerbahçe, Jay Jay Okocha played for Fenerbahçe and went to PSG for 17M $. I think you dont know anything about Fenerbahçe. :D :D

They're a good club in terms of money and will do decently well in the Champions League, but I would not bet on them getting past the group stage let alone winning it. I also know they're not in one of the top 5 leagues in Europe. That makes it a shame that Alex could not get a transfer to somewhere more in the limelight.

it is in the top 5 I think. even if it is not in top 5, he came to a club which is in top 10 of Europe. ok?

In yesterday's match against Argentina, Alex came in at 70-75 min., i think. Basically had one chance to score from inside the penalty area and missed. Then assisted Ronaldo who was tackled by the GK for the 3rd penalty call of the night.

Shame we won't be able to follow the guy anymore. Heck, another player going to Europe, what elses new?

According to the turkish media he will earn about 4 million Euros per year. I don't know if that is true though.

Fenerbahce are trying to buy every single good player in the turkish league, so I think they might do well in the champions league next season. Alex is the third National team player they've bought this summer.

And Alex is only 27 years old, so if he does well he will probably be sold to a club in one of the big leagues. ;)

our coach was werner lorant. as everybody knows he is a moron.

this time it will be different. we have many good players, a very good team and Daum as coach. I am sure we will be succesful in the CL.

and we have 4 Brazilian (Morcio Nobre, Fabio Luciano, Marco Aurelio and Alex de Souza) players so I dont thnik Alex will suffer an adaptation period.

Has Alex played for a club outside Brazil previously? Was he not at Parma for a short spell?

    2. Italy
    3. England
    4. Germany
    5. France (Monaco, Lyon, PSG)
    6. Holland (Ajax, PSV)
    7-8. Turkey/Portugal

    Chelsea
    Barcelona
    Deportivo
    Valencia
    Ajax
    Roma
    Inter Milan
    Lyon
    Porto
    Monaco (now)
... all European clubs better and bigger than Fernebache. I'm at 16 better clubs of the top of my head excluding teams like Stutgart, PSV, Newcastle, Werder Bremen, Lazio all of which in my opinion are better than Fenerbahce. So how is it one of the Top 10 clubs in Europe?

Either way, it's a bit of a pity.

Fenerbahçe has at least 25 million supporters only in Turkey and has millions all over the world.

    Turkish 1. League Cup (15): 1959, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1968, 1970, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1983, 1985, 1989, 1996, 2001,2004
    Turkisk Cup (4): 1968, 1974, 1979, 1983
    Cumhurbaskanligi Kupasi (6): 1968, 1973, 1975, 1984, 1985, 1990
    Basbakanlik Kupasi (9): 1945, 1946, 1950, 1973, 1980, 1989, 1993, 1995, 1998
    Atatürk Kupasi (2): 1964, 1998
    Balkan Kupasi (1): 1968
    Millî Küme Sampiyonluklari (6): 1937, 1940, 1943, 1945, 1946, 1950
    Türkiye Birinciligi (3): 1933, 1935, 1944
    Istanbul Ligi Sampiyonluklari (16): 1912, 1914, 1915, 1921, 1923, 1930, 1933, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1944, 1947, 1948, 1953, 1957, 1959
    Istanbul Kupasi Sampiyonlugu (1): 1945
    Istanbul Sildi Sampiyonlugu (4): 1930, 1934, 1938, 1939

    these are our cups.

and in additon to that Fenerbahçe is not a football club. Fenerbahçe SK mean Fenerbahçe Sports Club and it was founded in 1907.

And we have many branches: football, basketball, volleyball, rowing, boxing, swimming, athletics, table tennis and more.

You can look at the facilities we have from here.

which of these clubs have these?

Not: for more information you can look here: http://www.fenerbahce.org/default.asp?a=1&subcategoryname=&pg=&newsid=&lang=EN . it is in english.

What a ridiculous argument. We're talking about football here, this is a football site. YOU talked about the Top 5 football leagues? Ands Alex is going to play football so this is a football decision.
I noticed not 1 European title.
By your logic if he went to play for China's biggest sports club that had many different sports and 100 million supporters, would it be a bigger club for Alex to join than the ones I mention.
East Bengal in India has some 25 million supporters and many sports. I would not put them in the top 1000 clubs.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Why? Why?! What a terrible waste. He could have gone to France easily. I heard Monaco wanted him. The best domestic Brazilian player going to a second rate league.

I'll add though, the Turkish superliga is played with a lot of intensity and attacking flair. The teams and players there aren't half as bad as people here make it seem. Turkish clubs regularly do well in Europe versus their more famous counterparts and the Turkish national team is very good as evidenced by their World Cup campaign.

Turkish Super league is certainly better than French league. i dont want to discuss it.

    Germany.....82,398,326
    Turkey........68,109,469
    France........60,180,529
    Italy...........57,998,353
    Ukraine.......48,055,439
    Spain.........40,217,413
    Poland........38,622,660

as you see Turkey is not the the only populous country in Europe.

Yes we dont have a UEFA or CL cup but this does not mean we wont have. what I wanted to tell was we have the capacity, we have the potential. we are one of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Im sorry but I also think this is a money gain, but a waste of time and talent for Alex. He is a class player. I doubt Fenerbahce passes CL first phase, so nobody will see him play for long. And not being seen, he would not be called anymore for Brazil NT. It would be a real shame. In my opinion he could easily be in Brazil NT first line in Ze Robertos place. He was in our lineup when Brazils coach was Luxemburgo, in 98-99, and he was one of the best players in our team.
I think I have a team to root in next Champions League. I hope Fenerbahce does well in CL for him to be signed by another team (I think he would fit very well in Barcelona. He and Ronaldinho would be a blowout)

Fenerbahce do have quite a few brazilian players. After the signing of Alex they have got Fabio Luciano, Marcio Nobre, Marco Aurelio and Alex. :)

I think they might surprise a few people in the champions league next season, but it will be tough since they won't be seeded.

You would definitely know more about this than me but didn't Alex go to Parma a few years ago? I don't think he did that well there and went home. Actually, was he a part of the passport scandal then? :D

Hopefully it is a good move for him and he makes Fenerbach a team to be reckoned with. With the exception of Fabio Luciano they have picked up some good young Brazilian players recently! And that is not a knock on FL - he actually played in Brazil's Catalonia friendly. There are quite a few players that go to Turkey.

Only worry would be implications with playing for the Selecao for him.

As far as I know, Parma had a packed roster at the time. They may have had too many S. Americans already as Parmalat has strong ties in S. America that helped them get Veron, Ortega, Crespo, Asprilla, etc... So he never played a game! If you're insinuating that Italy is second rate? Hehehe, be nice to us, its been a rough 5 years.
