For those who don't get Sports Illustrated, there was a full-page article on Alecko Eskandarian in the issue delivered to subscribers yesterday. (It's the one with the Angels on the cover.) Solid article, though probably not too much news for hard-core fans. Some interesting anecdotes and a good picture of him (and another of his NASL dad). Of note (to me, anyway) was the fact that the article was NOT written by Grant Wahl. Not that I don't like Grant's work but it seems notable that they'll let more than one person write about the beautiful game.
Thanks for the info ... it's a nice piece. Unfortunately, it's labelled "NOT AVAILABLE IN ALL EDITIONS." Gelnovatch says, "This level is frustrating for Alecko because he's so advanced that he tries to do it all himself. He's technically gifted and he strikes the ball much better than most, so he has the potential to be a national team player. But it's not a sure thing. He's got to keep improving."
The article also says that Alecko is "leaning towards leaving school after this season" and that he's considering both Europe and MLS.
I keep checking the newsstands in State College but none of them have the article on Alecko. It seems rather timely considering his exploits against Maryland!
