The alcoholic beverage industry is asking Congress to lower (by half) the federal excise tax on booze. After watching what the tobacco industry went through, I would have expected the booze industry to keep a low profile for awhile. Between whining about sin taxes and pushing the edge with their trojan horse malt beverage ads on TV, they are likely to draw more attention than they probably want. Murf Disclaimer: I love my booze.
I just like the title of this thread: Alcohol Industry Wants Lower Sin Taxes. Well of course they do. Can we start topics like Gamblers Want Better Odds or Fraternity Boys Want Looser Women At Parties?
I'm quite certain they aren't the only ones. Former party animal (and single for just a few more days), Brian
You're right. I chose a poor title for this thread. It should have said something to indicate that beyond wanting lower sin taxes, they were risking political capital by lobbying Congress to actually lower them. I needed to spell out the distinction between desiring something and actually acting upon those desires. I'll try to do a better job in the future. Murf
I didn't mean my reply as demeaning, I just got a bit of a chuckle. The issue of whether or not alcohol should be taxed at a different rate than other goods is a valid one, though (my answer is yes).
