If people consider "Smells Like Teen Spirit" the best song on "Nevermind" then they need to listen to more music. And I didn't vote against it until my fourth vote. As for "RCF" I've just never liked the song.
OK, here's the tally from round one: Brand New Cadillac - 4 votes Lover's Rock - 4 votes Card Cheat - 3 votes Koka Kola - 2 votes Hateful - 1 vote Rudie Can't Fail - 1 vote Right Profile - 1 vote Revolution Rock - 1 vote So let's have a runoff vote between Brand New Cadillac and Lover's Rock. Choose one or the other and it's gone. I'll tally the votes up tomorrow morning. I vote off Lover's Rock.
I listened to my old tape of London Calling last night as I was exercising and grading papers. I vote off Lover's Rock, too. Initially, I was leaning elsewhere, but you guys are right. It doesn't fit on the album, and as fellatio songs go, it's not as good at "Save it For Later" by the English Beat. So it's off, IMO.
I was going to vote off Lover's Rock in this vote-off but with so many people against it I'm going to be a contrarian bastard and give my vote to Brand New Cadillac.
I'm just posting to let you know that I'm abstaining. It is a provable mathematical constant that every single song on London Calling is perfect and holds the balance of the whole together. Plus whoever try to vote off "Rudie Can't Fail" is high. Or maybe not high, whichever is the bad one. K.
Listening to it now. I'll let you know what I think when it's done. Starts off with an instrumental demo version of "Hateful," which sounds pretty good to me.
OK, I just got done listening to it. Unless you're a fan of the Clash, you probably won't like it. I did like it. But I listented knowing that all the tracks were demos. For me, it was cool to hear how the songs developed from demo versions to final mixes.
OK, the vote off was 10 for Lover's Rock, and 1 for Brand New Cadillac. Here's what's left for round 2: 1. London Calling 2. Brand New Cadillac 3. Jimmy Jazz 4. Hateful 5. Rudie Can't Fail 6. Spanish Bombs 7. Right Profile 8. Lost in the Supermarket 9. Clampdown 10. Guns of Brixton 11. Wrong 'Em Boyo 12. Death or Glory 13. Koka Kola 14. Card Cheat 16. Four Horsemen 17. I'm Not Down 18. Revolution Rock 19. Train in Vain
