Partizani ends the year in second place
December, 27 2005 - Partizani ended the year on a high note, winning six of the last seven matches, finding themsleves in second place, three points behind league leaders Elbasani. An impressive record for coach Starova who fueled the turn around for the team, getting 18 points in seven weeks with 11 goals scored and 3 allowed. In the impressive run, Starova lead the team into winning the two derbies against Dinamo and KF Tirana, 2-1 and 1-0 respectively, and also stopped the leaders for the first time in their stadium by the scoreline of 1-0. Then there were the convincing wins against Skenderbeu 3-0, Lushnja 2-0 and the away win in Durres against Teuta 2-1.
For the new year some players will be arriving, ecpecially a striker, since Drobnjak will be departing and Machado is still unavailable due to injury. 19-year old Abilaliaj and Mahir Halili are the only choices in attack for now.

this is the latest news from Partizani

Flamurtari, one of the most succesful Albanian clubs in European competitions is relegated to the second division unfortunately.

However they have a new owner I believe and they are currently first in the second division. Next year they'll be in the First Division.

I guess you must know them from the encounter they had some 20 years ago with Partizan Belgrade. That was a great series. Flamurtari went on to play Barcelona tying both games but losing on away goals. They were eleminated two years in the row by Barcelona.

Yes, that is were I remember them from. Sorry for getting the name wrong.

Do you think that Albania will make the European Championships in 2008?

Albania has some decent talent, it's just a shame that some of them don't want to play for Albania.

it can happen but it's very very hard. especially since some of our best players are already in their thirties and might not be around in 2008

    No I don't think we'll make Euro 08.

I believe we are a generation away from reaching either the World Cup or the Euro. It's the young players whose families have migrated to Western Europe who I believe will be the backbone of our future national team.

There are some decent players who opted to play for their adopted countries instead of Albania such as Valon Behrami for Switzerland and Shefki Kuqi for Finland.

I think I'm going to go back for these two games. With school over for good I think that September will be the best time to visit Albania and catch some great games while there.

Albania is looking for a new coach, and it may be well one of them:
    - Oto Baric
    - Uwe Rapolder
    - Claude Leroy
    - Alberto Zacheroni

Albanian Federation is in negotiations with these coaches and the deccision will be taken in a few weeks.

    @ Jaga

    here some clubs:
    - KF Prishtina, 12 times champion
    - Vllaznimi, 9 times champion
    - Liria
    - Besa, best team in last 2 years
    - Flamurtari
    - Ferizaj
    - Drenica
    - Trepqa 89
    etc etc

Scala is also one of the probable coaches for Albania. He's meeting today the head of the Albanian Federation to discuss a contract. If he accepts he'll probably get around $500.000 for the Euro 2008 qualifiers
