    O Seleccionador Nacional, Carlos Queiroz, divulgou esta quinta-feira a lista de pré-convocados para os encontros diante da Albânia (a contar para o grupo 1 de qualificação para o Campeonato do Mundo África do Sul 2010), que se disputará no dia 6 de Junho de 2009, e da Estónia (encontro de preparação), agendado para o dia 10 de Junho.
    Eis a lista de 47 pré-convocados:

    AC Siena: Gonçalo Brandão;
    AEK Atenas: Edinho;
    Arsenal FC: Amaury Bischoff;
    C Atlético Madrid: Simão Sabrosa;
    CD Nacional: Ruben Micael;
    CF Estrela da Amadora: Nuno André Coelho e Varela;
    Chelsea FC: Bosingwa, Deco, Hilário, Ricardo Carvalho e Ricardo Quaresma;
    FC Nuremberga: José Gonçalves;
    FC Porto: Bruno Alves, Raul Meireles e Rolando;
    FC Zenit: Danny e Fernando Meira;
    Juventus FC: Tiago;
    Leixões SC: Beto e Diogo Valente;
    Malaga CF; Duda e Eliseu;
    Manchester United FC: Cristiano Ronaldo e Nani;
    Portsmouth FC: Pelé;
    RC Bétis: Nélson e Ricardo;

    Vitória FC de Setúbal: André Marques;
    Vitória SC de Guimarães: Moreno e Sereno;
    West Ham United FC: Boa Morte

    As we can see Liedson has not been called up in one of the scary qualifiers we have. We have a late in form Almeida and Edinho as our potential strikers. We have to win this game. NOT TIE. but win. Can we do this with the same non scoring weve had ( with edition of Edinho) i think we can... i hope we can... but if we dont and fail to qualify at least with a full portuguese team and not nationalizing a brazilian wanna be portuguese. Well with Pepe and Deco.

    FORCA PORTUGAL
    May God be with us

    P.S. im happy about the bischoff call up i think he will do good for Portugal B and future A

    I agree with that setup. The back 6 I think are set in stone, barring injuries.
    The questions are: Deco, Danny and a 2nd DM?

    Deco - who the hell knows what shape he's in.
    Danny - same. (At least he's playing, right?)
    2nd DM - Will Pepe be able to handle DM by himself? I think it's worth the risk. Our backline is solid and we need to score goals. Also, Albanians will be on their best behavior or Pepe will go postal on them.

    If Deco is not in shape to play this, replace him with Tiago. He played great against Sweden. I think he's had a good season with Juventus (correct me if I'm wrong).

    Once again... No Maniche or Nuno Gomes.

    I guess they have no spot on the team under Queiroz.

    You're missing one player FPF..
    and aboaut no Maniche, i believe thats because he is without club.
    But sadly Nuno Gomes isnt in Queiroz plans,
    I know its a controversial subject, but anyone know when Liedson will confirm his naturalization?

    bah, screw this.

    let's go with a 3-4-3 formation. we don't have defensive reliable WBs.

    tional Team needs a striker that can score, a captain who can lead the team, and a goalkeeper that can make world class saves,,

    right now I think Eduardo is a great keeper so we are 1 for 3..We need Carvalho or Meira to be captains for Portugal! I think the CB's can see the game the best..

    I would love to see us put out a squad like this against Albania:

    - Eduardo -
    - Bosingwa - Rolando - Carvalho - Brandao -
    - Pepe -
    - Danny - Deco -
    - Ronaldo - Almeida - Simao -

    But,, I want Carvalho the captain, Ronaldo is too stuck up and cocky for it..

    Almeida is starting to heat up in Germany has 3 goals in his last 2 games, Edinho should be ready to come off the bench as well..

    Can't wait for Liedson! Then our team will be complete!

    All you have to see is that he didn't call the best player in Scotland Pedro Mendes. CQ is an idiot I wouldn't be surprised if we tied this game and essentially eliminate ourselves.

    Your right
    Pedro Mendes should AT LEAST be back up defensive midfielder. He is crazy good and determined. Really weird call up list. Almani Morreira has been on form for the Serbian League he should at least try him out for the B team.
    Gooddead lets not lost hope. Let us hope we take our chances and go through to the world cup. We have chance. We have to believe and so do the players.

    Ronaldo has been playing amazing so i think he will know how to improve for portugal

    ya, I'll admit its pretty embarrassing that Pedro Mendes hasn't been able to earn a callup as he's playing well in Scotland...I feel he's actually been pretty hard done by in his career (he never got a clear chance at Porto, partly because of Deco and because Spurs offered us a good deal...then he plays well for Spurs and begins seeing the bench after a while...same deal at Portsmouth)...he's a skilled midfielder and does his fair share of running. I'd even begin looking at Bruno Aguiar at Hearts who has played well against the Old Firm clubs.

    But, we need to address what we're really lacking...a striker. There's no way we are getting to South Africa with this type of quality up front. And even if by some miracle we do get there, there is no chance we'll progress in the competition.

    We need to get through Albania to have a chance...Queiroz knows his job is on the line. He'll do anything he can, let's hope the squad have the same mentality as well.

    Queiroz should have resigned after portugal drew 0-0 with albania at home (with ten men) and then got destroyed 6-2 by Brazil.

    problem is this guy has too much pride to not sacrifice himself for the greater good. when you are carlos queiroz and you are well aware that your whole managerial career (outside of youth and assistant managing roles) is epic fail you should heed the warning signs and know when to step down and save your country from utter humiliation.

    I believe Mourinho once said that jesualdo ferreira's life is the story of a donkey who stayed a donkey and never became a horse IMO i apply this statement to queiroz.

    now the picture just gets bleaker and bleaker.

    I dont care who plays, I dont care how we play, I just want to see 3 points on the board so we can regain some realistic hopes of a comeback.

    Keeps going from bad to worse here. They started showing World Cup 2010 commercials already, and I can't help but wonder in the back of my mind, will Portugal be there.

    lets face it, we have our backs against the wall. We used to value every point towards getting to a major competition in the Figo days...now our squad looks as though its their divine right to be there, and they are playing with that attitude...as though it takes no hard work to get there. Just like England failing to qualify for the last Euro, it can be a rude awakening/blessing in disguise where our national team members will a fire lit up under their ass and they'll begin playing for the crest on the shirt.

    I agree with you. They need that wakening, especially that cocky head ronaldo, he needs to mature to own the armband. But one thing I saw in the Sweden game was the fire. Please tell me someone agreed. They played incredible with so much speed and strength and will power to score they just need luck. And i think thats what we need. You have to push someone to the edge to make them realize there in danger.

    Lets hope luck is on our side.

    Forca portugal

    P.S. since danny is injured i think we need to change formation to adapt to a one striker which unfortunately have to be almeida.

    Deco has started training with Chelsea this week, but not ready to play this weekend.

    Carvs said on the Chelsea website to the fans that he's been doing some running outside, so not sure if he would be ready for the game on the 6th. Not to mention he hasn't played since the last Portugal game, so he will be out of form.

    Danny will not play again until 2010. This is a huge blow. He's been the one player who has actually looks like he's trying in the last couple of games.

    Our prospects were already looking bad, they dont look any better.

    Here is the call up list, Queiroz is a joke.

    Boa Morte WTF is he thinking.

    O regresso de Boa Morte (West Ham) e a estreia absoluta de José Castro (Deportivo) são as principais notas de destaque na convocatória de Carlos Queiroz para os compromissos de Portugal na qualificação do Mundial'2010, na Albânia (6 de junho, em Tirana), e de caráter particular, na Estónia (10 de junho, em Tallin).

    O guarda-redes do Benfica, Moreira, também está de regresso aos eleitos do selecionador nacional.

    A concentração está marcada para a próxima 2.ª feira (1 de junho), até às 12:00, no Hotel Marriott, em Óbidos.

    Lista de convocados:

    Guarda-redes: Beto (Leixões), Daniel Fernandes (Bochum), Eduardo (Sp. Braga) e Moreira (Benfica)
    Defesas: Bosingwa e Ricardo Carvalho (Chelsea), Rolando e Bruno Alves (FC Porto), Gonçalo Brandão (Siena), José Castro (Deportivo), Miguel (Valencia) e Pepe (Real Madrid)
    Médios: Deco (Chelsea), Duda e Eliseu (Málaga), João Moutinho (Sporting), Raúl Meireles (FC Porto) e Tiago (Juventus)
    Avançados: Boa Morte (West Ham), Nani e Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Edinho (AEK), Hugo Almeida (Werder Bremen) e Simão Sabrosa (Atlético Madrid)
