I wish Independiente had released him to Dec. camp. Since he experienced a dip in performance. This boost is in all likelihood too little too late. He doesn't play a need position, though could help our left-sided width.

Not in the squad for the fourth straight match. Does he have an injury that hasn't popped up on here?

    Got a very late appearance:

The match went immediately to PKs after a tied regulation. He didn't take a PK. They lost 4-2.

Nice, simple goal for Soñora. It cuts the Independiente deficit in half -- now 2-1.

Looks like he is headed to Montreal for January:

24-yo Alan Soñora will join @cfmontreal from Independiente.

The playmaking midfielder completed 83% of his passes and averaged 1.3 key passes per game (3rd on his team). He also recorded 2 goals and 1 assist in 21 caps this season.

The value of staying in Argentina for a pro player right now is zero. Inflation in Argentina in the verge of surpassing 100%. The value of a contract decreases substantially by the day since they're on a fixed amount.

I am hearing Montreal is making him a very nice offer. He will replace Mihailovic.

MLS teams have been going after talent in Argentina for years. This isn't surprising. But with the 100% inflation in Argentina wreaking havoc, players are going to want to get out to a more stable lifestyle. It's a good time for MLS teams to be even more aggressive.

    This where your argument crumbles.

The guy who Sonora is replacing in Montreal is

    1) American
    2) younger than Sonora by a few months
    3) put up big numbers in Montreal (11 goals and 21 assists in 67 games)

    - and... wait for it

    4) hasn't been getting called up by the USMNT.

So you really think Berhalter was telling Sonora to go to Montreal when a very good player at the same position and who hasn't been able to get into USMNT just left Montreal (to become one of the most expensive players ever paid for by the club he is joining)?

The conspiracy theories don't seem to add up to a big portion of the fanbase.

Don't get me wrong, I think he wants to be seen by fans in the United States. But I think Occam's Razor suggests that the most likely scenario is that playing in Argentina is financially brutal right now and Montreal made a nice offer.

Players with Sonora's resume in Argentina have been coming to MLS teams the past 6-7 years with great regularity. What makes Sonora so different? Players better than him in Argentina have been coming to MLS teams - like Alan Velasco (who is both younger and better).

Sonora's resume in Argentina fits the exact profile of who has been coming here for years.
