Was somewhat surprised and pleased to find that Radio 5 Live "The Home of Football" have seen fit to slum it in the lower reaches tonight and are broadcasting live commentary from Shrewsbury v Carlisle.

I would argue with the choice of Alan Green as commentator however. Time and again throughout the season the man has voiced his disdain for any football played at less than Premiership standard with sarcastic, throwaway comments about any news or scorelines from the Nationwide. To hear him try and pretend he cares now is galling. The man is a prick. They should have chosen Jimmy Armfield who always has demonstrated a wide range of knowledge and who seems to realise there are supporters at all levels of the game.

I don't tend to listen to 5 live, but I never fail to be amazed (and saddened) by those in the media who moan that football outside the premiership isn't as good - what the hell did they expect? Too many commentators think that that football is all about the title race and possibly the battle for european places, and nothing else is important. So what if the quality in the arse end of Div 3 isn't up to the standard of even an average Premier league match - you'll see damn sight more passion and emotion at Shrewsbury tonight than you'll see at 95% of premiership matches, and to me that's more impressive than watching a pretty-looking non-event at white hart lane or the riverside.

My point precisely.(though a lot more eloquently worded.)
