I may as well get this over with - sooner rather than later. AKR 2-3 SLU RusskyHoya articulates the sentiment well in his Big East thread: "St. Louis 3 @ Akron 2: Zips fans are going to have nightmares about this one for a long time. Up 2-0 at the half...and it could have been 3-0 if they had converted a PK for a handball in the box. Then an own goal to open the second frame. Then, with 27:35 left and pressing for a third goal, one of your captains earns himself a straight red card for launching a flying kick near the opponent's 6-yard box that instead manages to turn into a boot-to-face on a defender. Fifteen minutes later, 12 minutes away from the College Cup, you concede your own PK for a handball in the box. Then the game-winner with 3 minutes left. Absolutely brutal." I thought the straight red to Matt Dreas was very harsh It is not often that #14 seed somehow gets home field advantage throughout. We drew an inside straight. The planets aligned. A burning bush spoke. There will never be a better opportunity to advance to the College Cup, with so many high seeds eliminated. However, had anyone told me in August that the Akron Zips would host an Elite Eight match on December 6th, I would not have believed it for a second. Many previous Zips teams have been better than this 2025 squad - and still failed to reach this stage of the tournament. Chance is a greater factor than many of us would like to admit. In the eventual and inevitable season summary, 2025 will be considered quite successful. But it sure hurts right now. Akron Falls to Saint Louis, 3-2 - University of Akron Athletics
