I agree they still seem a bit low.

What time will the playoff game at Lee Jackson be that is on the 9th? I’m still thinking of going but I need to let my sister know because I’ll be staying at her house. I’m hoping it’s later in the day so I only need to stay with her family one night. It’s a 6ish hr drive from Lincoln Park to Akron. Traffic can be dicey.

To be fair, UConn will help Akron's SOS numbers when that game enters the RPI calculation. To this point, the Big East has been the weaker half of the Zips' schedule. Akron's non-conference SOS = 41 but its overall SOS is 76. I feel like Akron has scheduled stronger in the past...maybe they felt like they could weaken the schedule going into a stronger conference. Akron's division has been the weaker of the two...only Creighton has a winning overall record. And they drew Villanova as one of their East opponents.

The MAC was pretty damn good there at the end of its run, with Western Michigan and Bowling Green rising to challenge Akron.

Player to Watch: Emil Jaaskelainen, Akron

He is far from a secret, but what Jaaskelainen is doing this season deserves an isolated look. The graduate senior leads the country with 20 goals, six more than anyone else. Add the seven assists, and Jaaskelainen leads with 47 points, 14 more than the closest competitor. The British forward has been the best striker in college soccer while also peaking at the perfect time, with 17 of those goals coming in the last nine matches for the Big East regular season champions. Identified as a preseason transfer to watch, adding the two-time NEC Player of the Year from Long Island has clearly been a success for the Akron Zips. It must be the tips he learned from his father, JussiJaaskelainen, an English Premier League goalkeeping legend who played more than 800 matches.”

    UConn 0-0 AKR FT

A lackluster effort by Zips against an unimpressive team of Huskies. As a self-styled football purist, I have been entertained many times by an exciting but scoreless draw. This was not that.
This match was mostly boring. Both sides had more to lose than they had to gain.

    On to BE Tourney...

I wonder whether the 2015 Georgetown Hoyas are out there somewhere doing the 1972 Miami Dolphins thing, lighting up cigars to celebrate their unblemished 9-0-0 Big East Regular Season remaining the goldest of standards (as I've mentioned elsewhere, it's apples to oranges not just due to the two new teams in the conference between now and then, but because two of those wins required overtime).

Probably not, as yesterday was not a happy day for Hoya soccer fans. Creighton is the most dangerous of 5 seeds - on any given day, then can come out and play out of their minds, feast or famine with that bunch. And then if they get past that, having to face Akron in a semi is not what we wanted.

    AKR 1-2 GTN OT

Very even, very entertaining match for the neutral observer… which I am most certainly not.

Still defrosting my fingers and toes...

The difference in the game was Georgetown again going 19-20 deep and deliberately using that depth to run Akron ragged (and also play a bit more physical than usual, although no one will ever confuse Georgetown for one of the Big East's more physical squads). It worked...just barely, as it did (also just barely) against Creighton. Tip of the cap to Brian Wiese.

Akron remains a team no one should want to see next to themselves in the bracket. Emil and Malik are dangerous any time they have the ball, it's a high soccer IQ team, and they don't beat themselves. I'll definitely remember this one for awhile.
