AKR 0-0 PIT FT Another lackluster scoreless draw. On a positive note, though far from flawless, Zips defending looked more cohesive and determined. Especial recognition to MF Matt Dreas who has developed into our #6. More than one Zips historian has compared Matt Dreas to Ben Zemanski at Defensive Mid-field. Encouraging to see players improve; that is why we watch collegiate sports, right? I would counsel that Dreas needs work on distributing the ball after winning possession.
This was a hard fought and physical contest. Each side hit the woodwork without scoring. Good result for Zips. Akron Earns 1-1 Draw at No. 2 Notre Dame - University of Akron Athletics (gozips.com)
AKR 0-2 OSU FT Honestly, it was not as close as the score might suggest. And I am not convinced that Buckeyes are very good.
Lately I haven't been able to keep up with Akron soccer or anything else for that matter. Is a long season in store for the Zips? I would really love to see them get back on track but every time I see what's going on it seems like they take one step forward and two steps backward.
WMU 1-1 WMU Better, but not good enough. Gave up another sloppy PK that the terrible (but free) video coverage seemingly showed to be questionable.
Sports Journalism certainly is not what it once was. Akron and Cleveland State Battle to a 3-3 Draw - University of Akron Athletics (gozips.com)
AKR 4-0 VCU FT In monsoon conditions for last half hour. Surprisingly, all scoring done before the gutter washer.
Akron Takes Down No. 13 VCU, 4-0 - University of Akron Athletics (gozips.com) MEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO AKRON ON THE ROAD - Virginia Commonwealth University (vcuathletics.com)
The box score showed an attendance of 351. Is that accurate? If so is it because of the weather or have the fans already thrown in the towel? Nevertheless, an encouraging and needed performance.
That figure is probably accurate. The team has again started poorly. So, the casual fans are already gone. But Friday’s sparse attendance was actually more about the inclement weather. My guess for upcoming Monday night is 1,200.
AKR 0-2 IUI FT Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Home Loss. Again. IUIndy is probably the worst team Zips have faced so far this season. Zips dominated in every statistical category, blah, blah, blah…. I am just going to go back behind the shed And stick a finger down my throat.
Losing to IU Indy? The Jared Embick era must end after this year. This team has talent but the coaching staff is horrible.
Stark reminder that anyone can beat anyone on any given day in college soccer. The parity exists unlike any other sport. Credit to IU Indy for taking advantage and capitalizing. If they played 10 more times this season they might lose all of them. But they got it done - fair play
No it doesn't. The top teams come out on top something like 91% of the time in both men's and women's college soccer. Are there upsets, yes. I watched this game and even though Akron clearly had the better recruits no where during the game did I see a separation of play. For the last few years I feel Akron has had Top 25 talent but they have played down to all of their opponents for the last 3-4 years. During the match they would get disjointed for stretches at a time and not understand how to correct it. There was a lack of leadership and communication, not once did I see anyone barking orders on how to get the ball up the pitch or even finger point where to go. Ive said it to a few Akron supporters and I'll say it here. Something is rotten at Cub Cadet Field and it start with the head coach.
Has there ever been a worse week for Akron soccer? Losses to IU Indy and Temple ? Stu Parry and Caleb Porter must be appalled at the current quality of Akron soccer.
AKR 0-1 Temple Zips hit the frame 4 times. Akron score was called back due to offside (correct call). And it really was not even that close. But scoreboard is scoreboard. I really cannot remember a worse week in Zips MSOC. And I have been around the program since the early 1980s. I will not presume to speak for the great Stu Parry, but I sit close enough to him to hear what he says during matches. Appalled is probably close. I doubt Caleb Porter even remembers us. He has too much on his mind in New England. A mob is forming, pitchforks and torches in hand. Late Penalty Kick Lifts Temple Past Akron, 1-0 - University of Akron Athletics (gozips.com)
AKR 4-3 BUT FT Wooah, Nellie! Match of the week material here. Zips sure needed this. More on this later. Too busy drinking just now.
