    Shot or cross?

Regardless, I was down at the other end of the field and it was clear that that was a truly special goal. And that defender was...man...not good.

Oh, that was definitely a shot. A cross would have been the coach's choice, but he was shooting the whole way.

    Cheeky.

I was actually sold on it being a cross at the time (and my rather poor vantage point). I told the guy nearby that I thought so, too.

However, your video is starting to change my mind.

Thought I'm sure no team will ever be as accurate as Xavier was on Sunday from a set piece (how did they put 4 consecutive shots either off the woodwork or on frame?), the Zips really need to knock off the dumb fouls right in front.

Also, they seem to be vulnerable to counters.

WILLIAM PORTMAN continues to impress. He handles his business. He understands match situations well, usually choosing the correct tactic. Swift of pace and tough in the tackle, he brings much experience to bear. And he uses either foot well. It is tough to see Portman out of the starting 11 once matches count. I just cannot figure who it is that goes to the bench if Will starts at CB. Perhaps Portman can play something other than CB.

How did Louisville let this guy walk?

Looking forward to seeing Akron make the trip down to Huntington in a couple weeks to face Marshall. With Coastal Carolina joining C-USA this year and WVU next, we need one more in order to have a 5-5 even split of home/away conference games, and I'd love for Akron to be that school (especially with the MAC on life support).

    Imagine

    CUSA
    ---------
    Marshall
    Akron
    Kentucky
    WVU
    Charlotte
    South Carolina
    Coastal Carolina
    FIU
    FAU
    UAB
    ODU

I think that league could push the ACC.

That league would indeed push the ACC. But Akron will never leave the MAC, for many different reasons. The foremost reason ifs that Akron is MAC for every other sport (I think), certainly all the sports I can name. I like your idea.

MAC should be absorbed by Missouri Valley Conference for soccer since they have affiliate members now (Ohio Valley Conference) as it is. Makes sense for both conferences in terms of logistics, size, cost. Both conferences teetering on not having enough members with SIUE floating back and forth. Four MAC teams would give MVC ten teams and eliminate the need to play double round-robin. Missouri State vs. Akron would be an interesting matchup.

OK. I would go for this idea too. As stated above, the planets would need to align perfectly for Akron to ever leave the MAC. In many ways, Akron IS MAC MSOC, regardless of whether they ever again win the conference.

I was looking over the stats from the game against Michigan State. Why didn't Carlo Ritaccio play? I knew that he has battled some injuries the past few seasons. Is it related to that or did he not win a starting spot? If he's at or near 100% it's hard to imagine him not playing.

It looked like a lot of the newcomers are already making an impact. Many new faces made it into the game.

Carlo Ritaccio is recovering from off-season surgery. Zips Nation eagerly await his return. Even from the bench, it difficult to imagine a more influential and invested team captain.
