Once the "league" stage starts, they'll have all of the matches. UEFA doesn't own the rights or produce the first few qualifying rounds. I don't believe they do all of the matches until CL PO and then all CL/EL/Conf League matches they'll do. So it's a UEFA problem not Paramount+. I believe Ajax had the rights to the first EL match and they sold it to Paramount. I imagine they'll try to do the same this round? They're usually pretty good with getting streaming of any home European qualifying matches.
Well, that is the dilemma. In the past few seasons, they would show every match of a certain league (e.g., Argentina, Brazil, Italy). Now they have more leagues but only show a match or two, here and there. It is hard to follow a particular squad if they are not the preferred choice of the program director. Anyway, thanks for the info.
Farioli is not playing with a traditional #10 which is why Fitz-Jim starts. He has great field vision and is a fantastic passer as he displayed on the Berghuis goal. Unfortunately, he is a light weight and does not defend very well. Even so, I'm glad to see him get game time. Sutalo was a full time starter last season and very error prone. He had a decent Euro with Croatia but Ajax seem to want to bring Rugani from Juventus on loan. I don't know if this means Sutalo will leave. He wants to stay with Ajax and improve his game. Amazing that Baas is even playing as a CB. He was a LB and defensive MF during his academy days, both of which he played on loan last season. He's very good on the ball.
yeah they have all UEFA competitions on Paramount+... It's hard to follow it all. Too many streaming services. I think it's holding back soccer in the US. It's too much to keep track of for non-hardcore fans. Happy with away win. Tie or win at home and at worst Ajax is in Conference League. Cautiously optimistic for this season. Interested by the first league match this weekend.
I watched the last 35 minutes and didn’t really think it was a very high level match to be honest. The Greeks are a bunch of goons with some over the top challenges, and one in particular on Taylor that should have produced a red card. Ajax with some wasted possession and poor decision making, but mainly in control against a rather average opponent. Need to finish them off early next week. Nice to see Brobbey get a 10 minute cameo.
Ajax fans on social media very negative about Fitz-Jim: https://voetbalflitsen.nl/ajax/2xjazx/fitz-jim-ajax-panathinaikos
Fitz-Jim has shown improvement in my opinion and works pretty hard in the 3 European matches that I have watched so far this season. Is he a long term solution in MF I don’t necessarily think so, as he’s under but he’s not been a disaster like T Hes absolutely horrendous
Very hard to sit here and watch these matches with very little quality or exciting play, but hopefully somehow or some way things will change soon.
this was the type of match that Ajax would have dropped points last season. They are much better focused on defense under Faroli and look to make safe passes. Ajax purists might lament the lack of quick attacks but I don't think the players for that type of offense are there in the MF. The match should have been put away earlier but van den Boome clanged a shot off the upright quickly back to Akpom who probably did about as well as he could given how fast it came to him. Godts named MOTM in the Arena and it's hard to argue against that choice. Hlynsson was clinical in the chance he got and almost had a second. Good to see that Faroli is not afraid to rotate players, something that was never evident last season. Janse is obviously not a left back but he did what needed to be done and was hard to beat. Rematch against Pathinaikos on Thursday night. Player Ratings: Pasveer (6.5) - had a couple of tricky saves to make and was calm on the ball Gaaei (7) - solid defensively and broke into the open on offense on several occasions; he may beat out Rensch for the starting position Sutalo (7) - night and day difference from last season, maybe it's the system but he looks more relaxed and has played largely error free Baas (6.5) - had one bad play when he went to ground quickly and lost his man but otherwise OK Janse (6.5) - solid game in his first start and out of position Mannswerk (6.5) - kept calm with the ball at his feet and I don't think he committed a single turnover van den Boomen (6) - a liability because of lack of quickness but was OK but should have scored with an open shot Hlynsson (6.5) - put in a great shift always playing at 100% and his hard shot on the goal was the match winner Berghuis (6.5) - solid effort from the Captain Akpom (5.5) - to slow to cause any danger Godts (7.5) - takes the ball down better than any player since Justin Kluivert and the Heerenveen FB could not contain him Forbs (6) - played well coming on for Berghuis and was quite decent with the ball at his feet Traore (5.5) - I think I know why nobody wanted him when his contract ran out, he's lost some of the quickness he had when he was on loan at Ajax and his decisionmaking is poor Taylor (5.5) - decent enough coming on midway through the 2nd half Henderson (5.5) - helped cement the win with some good play Brobbey (NR) - on late and had a sniff of goal but pulled the shot wide
Nijhuis did a great job keeping match close. Reversed red and no PK late on that handball. Great managing rotating players then triple sub. Smart approach with a rather average squad. Really low quality at times. Akpom is bad. Traore looked horrible. Brobbey/Bergwijn are desperately needed. I am curious if Bergwijn will be with club in 2 weeks.
I think VAR was correct on the RC reversal. Nijhuis did not have a good view of the play because of the angle. It was a very marginal touch on Godts. Handball call was correct; player had the arm to his side.
Another 1-0 victory, four out of the last five matches with that scoreline (including the last friendly). Fitting for our Italian coach. agreed with Orange about this is the kind of match that would have dropped points last season. The defensive structure and clean sheets are a big encouragement.
Sutalo was VI's MOTM. https://www.vi.nl/video/ontwikkeling-sutalo-laat-de-kwaliteiten-van-farioli-zien
I watched the game courtesy of Dutch ESPN. Have to admit this was an entertaining match. Four goals, two by each team but one was a PK, one an own goal, one a poor header right to an attacker and one a GK mistake on a corner kick. Faberski drew a penalty but Kanadou clanged the PK off the post. Jong PSV were marginally better. PSV started Drommel at GK who is really not a Jong player and Pepi at striker (he's right behind Luuk de Jong). Drommel made some big saves but misplayed Kaplan's header in the 95th minute that tied the game. Ajax had a number of shots saved or blocked as did PSV. I was not impressed with either Ajax FB. Faberski plays like Mika Godts and I think can break through into the first team. Setford made some great saves but conceded a PK when he had to come out and took down the PSV attacker.
Looks like Setford is going to be Ajax next first choice keeper. He's 20 already so they should start giving him some time with the first team. His younger brother, is he on loan at Arsenal or we sold him?
Sosa gone to Torino... loan with option to buy. Big part is full salary covered. Winjdal, Tahirovic and Vos still need to go. Also Unuvar was extended a year which makes me think another loan for him?
