At least the three Adida stripes on the sleeves are not all that visible!!! I don't know why they keep doing this with every team they sponsor.
I think it’s fair to say they don’t know what they’re doing at Ajax. Despite changes to the hierarchy I still have doubts, and until there is some success on the pitch with better results and football I will still be unhappy about things. That said selling Sutalo I’m all for it he’s been so poor for Ajax, and did not play well for Croatia at the recent Euros. Giorgio Chiellini gave a scathing critique of his overall play as well even commenting that he does not belong in the Croatian team.
Ajax playing Al-Wasl (Emeriates team) Line up: Ramaj, Gaaei, Boumann, Baas, Sosa: van den Boomen, Mannswerk, Bergwijn; Rasmussen, Rijkoff, Godts 2nd half subs: Vos for Berghuis; Hlynsson for Godts; Kaplan for Sosa; Tahirovic for van den Boomen; Ugwu for Gaei 2-0 at the half with goals from van den Boomen and Rijkoff, both of them off hard low crosses. Don't really know about the quality of the opponent. Ajax have had 80% possession mostly in the opponent half. Ramaj did not have any save to make at all. Impressed with the pressing and quick passing. It is so refreshing to see an Ajax team play this way. I assume we will see subs in the 2nd half. Not much happened in the 2nd half. Ajax got sloppy in the final 10 minutes. A bad backpass from Mannswerk gifted a goal and it ended 2-1. Observatons: Faroli has this group playing at a much higher tempo than we seen since the days of ten Hag. there was a much better field awareness and players were confident at passing into space as they knew someone was either there or would be there to receive the ball. the pressing was excellent and Farioli was again on the sideline yelling at players to keep up the high pressure. It was difficult to judge how effective this team is defensively as Al-Wasl really did very little. Interesting that Boumann who is only 17 played the full 90. Baas played CB again but moved out to LB when Kaplan came on; he also got the Captain's armband from Berghuis!! I think he stays with the club this year and Sosa looks like a departure if they can find a buyer. One more friendly against Olympiakos before real play starts next Thursday.
Final friendly against Olympiakos today. I only watched the 2nd half today. Wijndal apparently injured his shoulder in the first half and came out to the bench with his left arm in a sling. Tahirovic played at LB as Sosa and Baas played yesterday and Hato was not fit. Forbs got the lone goal late in the first half. Not much action from Ajax in the half I watched. Pasveer made some smart saves. Janse played the full 90 and Kaplan came on for Sutalo midway in the 2nd at RCB. Ugwu came on at RW and Hlynsson in the MF with 20 minutes left. Match ended at 1-0
Watched today’s match vs European Conference League Champions Olympikos from the 33rd minute on. Goal by Forbs late in first half after Kenneth Taylor got stuck in hard then carried the ball forward on a quick counter playing the ball to Forbs on the left who finished with a low shot Most of the match that I saw was extremely poor with no attacking play from Ajax and several poor turnover’s and passes that were just wasteful. Completely unimpressed by Akpom, Tahirovic, Henderson, and Sutalo. They are just awful. The only good things for me was that it’s nice to hear the talking on the pitch, and Farioli has them in better condition, but the severe lack of quality in talent, and the low football IQ is a continuous problem, Ajax missing Bergwijn, Brobbey, Berghuis, and Hato so that’s a massive loss, but I think the club is very much in a terrible phase from the recent mismanagement, and we can be looking at some very poor football.
What I saw today was dismal compared to the 'B' team's performance yesterday. Right now I'm not too worried. I think Farioli has a good plan and the players appear to be buying into it. We will know more once the matches begin in earnest this coming week.
I just came across this guy's site. It's pretty funny to see how he rebuilds Ajax with players I have never heard of. Weird thing is he keeps Sutalo. there is a big surprise at the end.
According to reports, Pasveer is going to start the season as #1. I don't understand this at all - Ramaj was relatively solid (although not spectacular) last season. He now wants to leave immediately. The only sense I can make of this is that Farioli must rate one of the younger keepers and just wanted a veteran to bridge the gap until they're ready?
We will find out about the GK situation soon. If Ajax were serious about a youth keeper moving up they would have tried harder to keep Tommy Setford instead of sending him to Arsenal.
Yeah, I don't get that one, unless Tommy wants himself to leave. That however in my eyes would be a stupid move, as nowhere is there a possibility Arsenal is going to put him on the bench as a sub.
That deal is already done. Apparently, Setford knows the GK coach at Arsenal and wants to work with him. Weird putting faith in a 40 year old keeper if it is true. I would only note that van der Sar played at ManU when he was 41.
I don’t rate Ramaj very much at all, but I am surprised Pasveer is # 1. What’s interesting is Farioli is a GK Coach so he must see something. I also know he’s unhappy about lack of signings, but surely he’s been informed of the terrible financial situation Ajax is in, and that they must sell first. The problem and reality is that no one is interested in any of the crap rejects brought in by Mislintat. Other than Bergwijn Brobbey Berghuis and Hato Ajax has little quality in its ranks. I saw Sutalo has some offers but he wants to stay. Certainly Ajax Management has to get this guy out as soon as possible. I also read that the price for Brobbey is only 20-30 million and you can rest assured if this price is true he’s going to get snapped up, however I recall reading that he’s not for sale so what is it? Bergwijn has some links too, but again if they sell him and Brobbey this will only hurt the club further as they are the 2 best players at the club like them or not.
In here the keepers choice is explained. use google translate. https://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/nieuw...geniet-farioli-stapte-naar-ajax-directie.html
Hopefully they can get a good price for Ramaj but in truth he’s quite average. As I said before nobody is interested in the Ajax trash which is aplenty at the moment. Farioli not happy about this, which I understand, but the situation is what it is.
Three! And they’ve got Panathaniakos (probably) waiting for them in the next round. That’d be a fun historic matchup at least!
It was the same number that they had to beat on their road to the CL semifinals in 2019. We'll see today how Farioli has this team playing. I've been impressed with what I've seen but there will be some player turnover in the next month. Kroes was interviewed yesterday and said that Ajax are constrained financially. 35% of what they receive in transfer income will have to be set aside and they cannot use this for new salaries. I think they will seriously try to move Bergwijn as he may have the highest transfer value.
With the Ziggo logo, the shirt #, and the eventual name on the back of the shirt, the giant blood drop doesnt look so bad anymore
Actually kinda excited for a new season with a real manager. Seems like tons of moves still to be made in the window with shedding players and perhaps a signing or two. But feels like this year is a fresh start. Any American fans know if Ajax match today is somewhere legally? I don't see it on ESPN+. I know the rights for these early qualifiers are with the club and not UEFA so I don't imagine it'll be on Paramount+. Maybe will just have to find a VERY LEGAL stream!
