PBP: Aiming for “mid” - the 2026 consolidated match thread - all competitions

Many years ago in RFK, we gave up either a winning or tying goal in the last 2-3 minutes of the halfs of 7 or 8 games. Dropping like 15 or more points in the standings. The next spring Olsen said we would have to start declaring RFK as OUR HOME, and defend it with a lot more intensity than before. That season, we didn't drop points like before.

We're going to have to do that again here in Audi. And that will up to the coach to turn that around.

 

The team has been fighting the SGs for many years....was there something in particular causing you to ask?

 

It seemed empty flagless and drumless very close to kick off but it filled out and the energy was there.

 

I got in late so didn't notice that.

I did notice that (finally?) dc defended the supporters side first half so the opponents could face at least some home field advantage when it matters more in the 2nd half.

 

And they did, again and again and again ...

The last time I saw an attacker get behind a defender so easily and often was Saka against whomever MLS ran out at left back in the ASG at our stadium.

 

The team management has been fighting SGs since Kevin Payne left.

 

Kevin Payne looked at the SGs as a value add, Levien looked at them as a profit center.

 

Maybe initially.

I feel Levien’s overriding thoughts on the SGs are that they are the ones who try to hold him accountable the most and are also the most vocal and influential fans. Therefore they are the people he wants to disillusion the most because them becoming apathetic is the easiest path forward for him.

A delayed response but I feel like I am seeing this post for the first time.

You are spot on. The SGs (particularly SE and BB) were the largest customers of the team which gave them outsize influence. Moving to AF was seized upon as the opening to radically cut them back to 500 tickets total when each previously controlled at least that much - in some years much more.
