The team seemed off tonight from the start. Passes to no one and no ideas. The Nashville game took its toll.
I liked Baribo’s goal. I hated the way his passes were always backwards when he received an outlet pass. And often they were very negative, like heading the ball 25 yards back into space. Weiler needs to coach that out of him. That PK call looked disgraceful. But we didn’t get many camera angles.
It's annoying that there are more cameras on both sides of the field for DC Defenders games. Pay up DC. ********. They even have cameras in north and south stands and a wire cam.
That's what I saw in stadium. I just watched on apple and for unknown reasons the only view was extremely zoomed in and following his lower body so it's difficult to see what it came off of. The camera work and direction were even more embarrassing on the penalty. I'm now seeing viewers didn't even see the goal initially and the shot of the penalty area for the take was horrible. I wish we had seen what they were looking at on the penalty decision. Regardless, defenders need to know where their man is and find the ball. Johnson did enough even on the third goal. Chicago knew to get a hard shot on goal and make the keeper stop it in wet conditions.
I have espn on as background noise after the NBA Playoff game and was surprised to see Baribo's goal made SportsCenter Top 10 at #10.
FWIW, he’s never been known as a dribbler or an assist guy. He’s got 6 assists in 3 years. He’s a poacher, an off the ball runner who finishes well, a fairly traditional 9. If he’s receiving the outlet with defenders in front of him, he’s not typically going create for himself. I don’t think he’s ever scored from outside the box either, there sure haven’t been many. So I’m not really surprised to see him not running at defenders with the ball. He's a fox in the box kind of scorer. He’d have scored a million goals in 2021 when Kamara scored 19 and we called him an above average finisher of good opportunities.
I know we had time but that PK call really took the wind out of the sails. I have been entertained for the last handful of games and that's all I can ask for.
That was one of the best pressers I have heard in a long time. Weiler is a very grounded individual. Last night after the match, my daughter called and we were reviewing the match and the bigger picture for DCU. We agreed that Herrera would be moved given Markovic's start and the presser confirms it. We figured that in the summer, Pirani, Herrera and Clark would be moved. Stroud, by process of elimination, is now the RW backup. Kijima is cheap and can help Kurokawa acclimate to the US so he has depth and cohesion value. We also agreed that Hopkins is just "a guy" nothing more. He should be first guy off the bench, but he's not fast enough in speed or thought to be starting outside. This team still is at least 3 above average players away from being a solid contender.
Yeah. I get that. I accept that limitation in his game. I’m talking about when he received the ball at or near the midfield stripe. He never looked forward, or even lateral. That can and should be corrected.
