0-4 at home, and two or three goal-line saves that kept it at that. Is this the first awful result of the Weiler era?
Watching replays of the goals, Hefti was an absolute disaster and bears responsibility on all 3 goals in run of play. Just no sense of where the attackers were. The "attack" is pathetic. Mostly just Kurokawa whipping it in hopefully. When we get into final third, there is zero ability to make a penetrating pass. So easy to defend against
The upside is I had the extreme good fortune to attend the game as a guest at the Audi suite immediately next to the broadcast booth, which meant free food and booze. The entire suite experience with them was really above and beyond. The down side was everything else. How can refs be *this consistently bad*?
I'm not as upset by the result as some are -- and if you want real rage, go to the DCU subreddit. The first two goals for Dallas were the products of skill and execution. Farrington brought a long pass down perfectly and left Johnson hung out to dry. The free kick goal was a golazo over the wall and into the top 90. The problem for this team in that situation is it lacks the fire power and creativity to overcome a two goal deficit. Weiler kept thowing offensive subs at the wall and played a 3 man backline of Hefti, Bartlett and Kurokawa which was a concession that defense no longer mattered. Right now, this club is one that can maintain good defensive structure -- most of the time -- but is very limited going forward. If that structure breaks down for an instant, or an opposing player scores a golazo, DCU is borked because it doesn't have the horses to find its way back into the game. Expect this type of result at least until the summer break.
Oh, I agree, but now I wonder if Levien ALSO owns the refs, given their level of consistent incompetence.
If this this is the final stage of Bennyball, then does that make Munteanu the final stage of Hamdi Salihi? If so, are going to have a Ghost of Munteanu posting on the boards soon?
Minutes played by attackers last night: 90 - Peglow 81 - Pirani 68 - Baribo 61 - Hopkins 29 - Munteanu 22 - Murrell 9 - Clark
I have since learned that Baribo came off due to muscular discomfort. That explains some of this, but not all and of course brings about some other concerns.
Yeah, he was sitting in the center circle massaging his groin about a minute before he subbed off. Tried a sprint to keep up with an attack right after that happened and you could tell he was laboring.
I was at the game. It was a remarkably thin experience. Nothing to engage the crowd at all. The attack looked anemic from the start. Pirani, Peglow and Hopkins are just not good enough. Generally crazy how little energy there was on the field. I feel for Baribo. He seems to have some fight but nobody besides Peltola seems that engaged. Louis continues to not impress. What’s that about? Record signing not playing? Herrera looked a bit out of his element too, but he’s coming off injury. Not clear. Had such high hopes early, but last night’s performance felt like quiet quitting from up in the supporters’ section.
DC can work its ass off for a 0-0 draw but once the other team scores, the game is functionally over. Just like last year and the year before.
Also I have a feeling that this team is one blowout away from having their newly-found warrior mentality completely give up. Winless Philly is up next in the league. We all knew Weiler would leave next season but I'm starting to think he may not make it through this one either.
So for the second time this season, I looked up when the DCU game was on Friday, and by Saturday night completely forgot about it and did not tune it in on the radio app. Remembered on Sunday. Seems like I didn't miss anything, similar to the last time it happened. On the plus side, I should be actually able to see what the team looks like in the coming week or so because of the US Open Cup, so that'll be nice. Maybe they'll be on one of the FS1 (or ESPN?) games later this season too.
I'm sorry to be that guy but this is completely a you problem. Apple is precisely 0% worse than Google and neither is nearly as insidious as Meta or the Nazi platform. If you don't want to register for Apple TV, don't. But you're not winning any points. You may be winning points for not having to tolerate Apple's shitty announcers though.
