That won't stop Grok from getting all the government contracts. Can't wait for a measles outbreak in a blue state to be greeted with saturation drone bombing based on a Grok analysis..
Well, that's not good. Norwegian man wrongly accused as convicted murderer of two sons by ChatGPT. A Norwegian man has filed a complaint against ChatGPT after the AI chatbot wrongly accused him of murdering his two sons. According to the bot, the man would have been in prison for twenty-one years. Norwegian Arve Hjalmar Holmen was curious about how much information the AI chatbot could provide about him and asked, "Who is Arve Hjalmar Holmen?" However, the answer turned out to be more shocking than he expected. ChatGPT falsely labeled him a convicted child murderer.
Recently I noticed on my tv program guide that they started using AI to translate foreign description of the program's content into Dutch. I assume it's AI generated as it's as bad as the translation tools now available on the internet and boy oh boy it sucks major league. .
Yeah, AI is really sketchy when it comes to translation. Without any context, you get things like calling a (computer) tablet "comprimé" instead of "tablette." Comprimé is a legit word for a tablet, but it's for an aspirin tablet.
So it's 2005 again where we got a big kick out of translation programs that called fans (supporters) "ventilators".
Was in a particularly boring monthly meeting at work today until the GOES-R representative mentioned that DOGE was visiting their work campus in NOAA Stennis Space Center (MS). The interesting part is they were going to have to explain to a DOGE rep (I didn't catch the name) why AI replacing the GOES-R instruments and modeling is not a great idea. (hint: does AI create/generate any new data or use data fed into it?) Furthermore, AI models have a lack of transparency, making it difficult to understand the how and why of the result reached. That makes it tougher to identify and reduce errors in models/predictions, And considering parts of NOAA are on the chopping block, sending partial or incomplete data to generate weather models and predictions via AI is going to make those models/predictions ....what's the word....terrible. I see a repeat of Hurricane Katrina. One POTUS (Clinton) is going to slash NOAA's budget and years later, another POTUS (Bush) is going to be to blamed for it. IMHO, Hurricane Sandy, even though there was a lot of destruction, was a NOAA success story. NOAA accurately predicted the storm's path and intensity. The National Weather Service issued storm surge warnings, helping communities prepare. NOAA accurately predicted the affected areas, and gave other relevant info for recovery efforts.
We have a contract on Artemis (Mission to the Moon) that I can only assume will be taken away and handed to SpaceX or an AI bot or something.
Now that Microsoft has gotten what they want out of OpenAI and decided to stop throwing further money into their bonfire, OpenAI has had to look for other funding. And plenty have shown up, although not exactly leading lights. The main one is Softbank, who is famous for investing in ostrich farms and has to borrow the billions OpenAI needs against their few real holdings. There are a bunch of others too. The main problem is that OpenAI is still mostly a non-profit and these investors want equity in something that (supposedly, someday) will make money for stockholders. All this money promised to OpenAI depends on them switching from a non-profit to a for-profit (in a hypothetical sense) before the end of 2025. And that isn't easy. It's not like filling out a form or something, there are going to be complicated cases going on in both California and Delaware all while there is a suit from Musk about this very issue. And now various ex-employees and leading AI researchers are sending an open letter asking judges to prevent the switch from happening. I think OpenAi is going to have a very interesting year, the Chinese curse sense of "interesting".
Anyone find anything wrong with this definition? AI Overview Learn more The phrase "chinny chin chin" is a rhyming, rhythmic term used in the classic fairy tale "The Three Little Pigs". It's part of the phrase "not by the hair on my chinny chin chin". This phrase is said by the third little pig when the wolf refuses to let him in. It's a way of saying "absolutely not" and expressing strong refusal. The "chinny chin chin" part is a playful, rhyming element that adds to the story's charm
You remember that Star Trek TNG episode where Wesley comes back to the Enterprise to find everyone playing an addicting video game and he's trying to avoid it? Sometime I think I'm like that with AI. And I then think I'm being melodramatic. But then I read something like this (from I assume is the New York Times going by the font): I've never (purposefully) used a LLM AI. And I don't plan on it. But they eventually got to Wesley.
Just in case anyone in this thread is interested in learning more about AI, or LLMs, and not just yelling at clouds I recommend checking out 3Blue1Brown’s YouTube channel. His brief explanation of LLMs is a good start, but the transformer video is also excellent to begin getting a sense of how these things work, and how they’re likely to progress in capability (and where they do not have use).
I would say that if we forget about the huge cost in energy/resources and deem that aspect of it neutral (which is admittedly questionable), I think the effects of A.I. use to our societies and culture will be summarized in this Gennaro Gattuso clip (now the new Italy manager!).
Another problem with AI is that it is so lazy. It's like the teenage boy of researching. Looking up "whine and grine" which was Jamaican slang for sex, AI comes up with this overview. Now you might say, give AI a break since whine and grine was Jamaican 60's slang. The problem is that the phrase also was the name for a hit song for Prince Buster in the 60's and a bigger hit for the (English) Beat in the 70's.
It's all about context, and unless it's trained for it, AI will have standard, logical definitions for terms like this. Even Google could come up wit a better answer than that. As for "Whine and Grind," we all agree that she was a RoughRider, but the real question is whether she was from Ottawa or Saskatchewan.
The Star Trek series explored a lot of issues we are currently seeing with AI in particular the hologram generated people.
I've already mentioned how some (many? most?) people like offloading their thinking onto AI. But if you don't directly talk to AI these days you might now know how incredibly obsequious it is. It tries really, really hard to make you think it loves you and that you are the best. It's easy for people to fall for that quickly and totally. Fortunately, it won't be so easy for them to get me that way. I know I'm a horrible person and anyone saying otherwise is a liar and trying to sell me something.
