Ecuadorian World Cup Star Alex Aguinaga has seperated from Necaxa and is looking for a new team.

A Mexican paper quotes him claiming to have offers from MLS among other Mexican teams.

The only team I could think of that would benefit from this are the Metrostars. Since there is a large Ecuadorian population in the NY/NJ area.

actually the FIRE could use a #10 and with Armas in Defenisve Mid its not like they'd need him to play defense.

that being said i'm a little biased being half-ecua and in chicago.

Is he the shortish guy with ponytail? If that's him, he is a good player.

Aguinaga is a really, really good player. If there is a classic #10 around, he's it. Sure he is long in the tooth but he can drop it on a dime, hold possession and cut against the grain, all the stuff that a player at his position is supposed to do. In MLS he would excel, particularly with a good, fast team around him.

Yeah that's him, though the pony tail's gone and he's not THAT short. He has a tremendous touch on the ball and great vision, but has slowed down.

The "Valderrama II" moniker doesn't seem far off target, though I he's a more benign leader than Carlos I believe.

Saw him once at a meaningless match against the old A League San Francisco Seals, maybe it was 1998. He was a wonder to watch. Unless he's looking to get paid for vacationing in the US like Luis Hernandez and Jorge Campos did, it would be great to see him in MLS.

Aguinaga is a class act! MLS has wanted from day one! He's not a thief like Campos and Hernandez. He has been w/ Necaxa for 13 years turing down offers from spain and Italy and even bigger clubs in Mexico. I read he had problems w/ the fact that he's sitting on the bench. He's 35 now but is a dedicated player, I hope he comes to MLS, he's be another Donadoni.

Voted Mexican League Player Of The Decade!!!... That should speak volumes since he's From Ecuador. He deserves a look.

  11. Aguinaga was the goods up to a few years ago, but is past his prime and more injury prone than the average aging star.

i think what he is doing to the Necaxa fan is disrespectful. Just when they are going to change a page in thier history book (move to another city with a brand new stadium, and more fan base), he bails out and STATES he wants to go play and retire with CLUB AMERICA. I am not even a Necaxa fan and I see that as a slap in th face

He is not the same player he was 2 years ago much less 10 years ago. Necaxa has not made it to the playoffs the past 2 seasons.

A player should know when he can and cant perform. He has sucked the last 2 seasons

Me thinks he should either get a job with the Necaxa front office or start getting his coaching credentials.. I am sure he could teach a lot.

Having seen him play on the tele a bunch of times, in the mexican league and the world cup....he's definetely a great player and deserves a shot but he has no speed. He's 35 and i don't like the idea of the MLS bringing in "old" players like aguinaga, lothar (what a waste). It is also good as well though. It brings a certain respect to the league having some "big" names. It's unfortunate that the league can't afford big name players and don't have the facilities that we should here.

"I only play for teams that are on top."

I guess this rules out the Rapids.

In a nutshell, Alex see's it difficult for him to come to the U.S. since the league is nearly half way over. He'd like to be on a Mexican team.

I read somewhere that America is intrested, I'll look for the article and post it if I find it.
