Because he cut it in real life.

And because FIFA 2003 is a game.

They can't drape hair over the jerseys and make it look realistic. Several longhaired players look different. IMO, the player resemblance isn't all that great with most of the players.

I'm still wondering why Real Madrid has Ronaldo (EA had the good sense to pass on his W/C hairstyle) while Brasil does not.

I'm not positive, but I have heard that Ronaldo has some crazy Nike licensing agreement in regards to the his national team. That could be why. Maybe a similar issue with Kahn.

By the way the game is fun, but I don't like that you can no longer add or subtract from the national team rosters on the PS2 version.

I like the game too. I wish I didn't suck so bad at it though.

Where's a good place for pointers?

A Yahoo! search (enter FIFA 2003 or EA sports FIFA 2003) will give you EA's website and some others, but the best info can be found in this forum. Check the FIFA 2003 threads.

What, specifically, do you need help with? Passing, shooting, tackling, special moves, formation choice, dead ball tactics, it's all there. My advice off the top is for you to start off using a great, balanced (read: like AC Milan) rather than offense-heavy Real Madrid)team, and play some minnows on the lowest level at first. Use a 5-3-2 or 4-4-2 to avoid getting shellacked. If you get ahead by two goals early, switch to defensive mode until the end of the half, and keep it through at least the 60th minute unless they equalize. Don't use attacking mode unless you're behind by two. Who are you using as your primary club and national teams?

It helps if you've got experience with past FIFA games, but this one's a bit harder, and frustrating in that defenders move away from the ball as soon as you select them (a sh!tty way for EA to increase difficulty, IMO). Your opponents play better at home, so expect that. Pass. Again, pass. Avoid lobs and long passes unless you're sure you can thread the needle. Possession is everything. Tap repeatedly on headers rather than holding. Don't try to reverse direction as soon as you receive a pass- keep going the same way until you can turn, and then look. Don't be afraid to back pass. Do use thru balls on the wings.

    Thanks. That's probably it.

Makes sense, in a "Too much red tape for a damn game" sort of way.

Yes, exactly on point--you have to play the Continental style to be successful--possession is indeed 9/10th of the game! Long balls and aerial sorties (i.e., the English-style game) will often result in loss of possession.

I played with some of the advice people gave me here. On amateur level, I had AC Milan defeat Chievo (I think it was Chievo) by a score of 3-0, and I managed to defeat Juventus by a score of 2-0 using AS Roma.

Thanks! I think I might be starting to get the hang of it.
