I didn't see another thread that had this (please forgive me if I overlooked something)... A friend of mine was listening to a local radio station here in Maryland (99.1 WHFS), and said that Agoos was on the Sportsjunkies show (he's done the show several times). He was scheduled to play a game called The Bachelor (like the TV show) but said he had to drop out because he was negotiating with a European club for a loan deal. Anyone hear this or know anything about it?
In case anyone's wondering, Peterborough are 1 point ahead of Huddersfield at the bottom of Division 2.
Agoos sucks. Peterborough suck. A match made in hell. We should staple a flag to his ass and loan him to the Afghan Premiership.
My cynical previous post aside, what is Goose thinking? Why would MLS allow this? The answer can't possibly be "for the money". I took a quick gander around their website and bbc and it says that the team is on sale for about 1.5 million pounds, that Victoria Beckham is "counter-claiming" the trademark Posh that the club has been using as it's nickname since 1920 and is afraid that they might lose it "if it comes down to money. A bottom barrel Div 2 team...a step up for Jeff's career? San Jose would win the Div 2. Ian Bishop and sinner_ronald_monk be damned...what if Goose get's hurt? makes no sense any of this...
now it's Fiorentina Really, all I know is that it can't be Liverpool because they're after Southampton
Given some of the reactions, perhaps I was a bit naive to post this in the first place... However, I was hoping someone else could at least confirm that they heard this on the radio. Anyone?
I listen to the junkies often, especially when they have US Nats and/or DCU players. However, I missed the Agoos piece, but I'll ask a friend of mine who is a nieghbor/friend of one of the junkies.
That's not what happened. I was listening that day. JP, one of the Junks who, by the way, was a finalist for Game of Their Lives from the DC tryout, asked Goose to judge their "Miss Nutcracker" contest for the chick who would be their representative at a concert the station was hosting. JP said that Goose told him he was going to be in England on loan in December and couldn't make it. At least one of the other Junks clearly asked JP to clarify if he was playing in an exhibition game or going over to play with an English team and JP said Goose told him he was playing for an English team. Maybe Goose was blowing smoke up JP's ass. Maybe he was joking and JP misunderstood. But they have Goose on from time to time so they know the guy and JP knows his soccer. Whatever happened, who knows? But them's the facts. I almost drove off the road and thought JP was Bsing them until Lurch asked him to clarify. Maybe gnk can add some new news.
No..... Porto, Benefica and Sporting Lisbon are all bidding for him after he scored for Portugal at WC 2002.
We emailed the Junkies and here was the response; make of it what you will: From: JunksMail@aol.com [mailto:JunksMail@aol.com] Sent: Friday, January 03, 2003 3:37 PM Subject: Re: Jeff Agoos Goose has told me the team, although I can't remember it. However, the deal is still hung up. Thanks for listening to the Junkies in the mornings on 99.1 WHFS. Remember to check out our website at junkiesradio.com and to sign up for the mailing list to get updates on contests, appearances, etc. Spread the word! JUNKS - JP
I don't think so... I saw Agoos doing some informal training with a bunch of MLS guys and top college players last week and it doesn't appear he has done anything since last season soccer-wise. I can't believe he is being considered for a loan since he has done nothing to prepare at this point. So let's see.... he's old, out of shape, slow, and coming off a terrible WC...who wants him?
