Goals are fun. Although I’m open to, in the event of a 0-0 tie, teams being deducted a point if they demonstrate satisfaction with the 0-0 tie by wasting time.

0-0 is a perfectly legitimate achievement.

European Cups have been won that way.

0-0 finals stink. In the event that happens they should have a replay, between the loosing semifinalists.

If Notts County go to Arsenal the first priority is not to concede. If Arsenal don't score that's a win for us.

I remember going to Liverpool and playing for 0-0. We lost 1-0 but Liverpool fans were fuming that they couldn't score more than one against us.

The following year we were suffering injuries and fielded 4 attacking players. We lost 5-1 but we're applauded off the pitch by Liverpool fans.

The first one was more satisfying.

Screw that, goals are fun. You can play negative and try to nick a goal, fine. But if you don’t score one you shouldn’t get a point.

So a 0-0 ties means 0 points? Goals are fun, but are they more fun than fantastic saves? IMO< no. Are they more fun than a lock-down defense? Probably, but I've seen 0-0 games that were really thrilling.

Goals more fun than saves. 0-0 ties are rarely, but perhaps occasionally, good. But when they are it is usually in knock out situations where the awarding of points doesn’t apply.

If you don't want points for well deserved 0-0 draws then why not just use goals instead of points?

It depends on whether or not you have a team involved and game states, doesn't it? If your team is producing stunning saves, it's quite thrilling. Same with goals. If the score is 0-0, and your keeper pulls off a worldie save on a great shot, that's every bit as good as a goal, but that's my opinion.
    Yours is different.

I am very much on the side of draws are part of soccer. Unless it's a playoff and there has to be a winner; you split the points. I like goals as much as the next person but I don't think adding a shootout will increase attacking. If anything it might decrease it because sitting back in a shell gives you a chance at extra points.

If the argument is for a system where the shootout loser gets 0 and the winner only 1 (or less) I agree that could increase attacking, but makes luck an even bigger factor, helps the bigger clubs even more (may not be as big a factor in MLS), reduces the motivation for a team losing late to go for it, and feels a bit unfair in score draw situations.

If the argument is to only use that in 0-0, yeah it might create a little more motivation to attack but starting to feel awfully gimmicky. Soccer's the most popular sport in the world partially because it is so simple, my vote is to keep it that way.

I reiterate I prefer a goal over a worldie save. Yes, it is more entertaining when your team is in it. There would still be 0-0 ties that matter, like when your is in a direct play-off or championship race (“6-pointer”) or in tournament group situations. But in MLS, and perhaps other leagues, especially in the early season; I don’t want to see games with no goals.
