the dutch league is probably the most offensive out of any of the major european leagues so any goal-scoring stats coming from there should be looked at with a grain of salt. no doubt that he has been a consistent player for some smaller european clubs--in sweden and now in holland. it wouldnt surprise me if he is transferred this season--just a hunch but maybe werder bremen will consider him as a replacement for klose (who is likely going to be sold this offseason). or even barcelona, who have no depth at forward.

I have seen him play live, when he played for Malmö FF. He was ok, but bothing exceptional. I am really surprised and happy to see him like this. What an improvement!

    Well
U are entitled to Your opinion
    but I disagree.
He was a bit irregular but he was still the best player in the league
    and had flashes of brilliance.
But nowdays he is more regular.

    Re: Alfonso Alves

Yes, I know he was one of the best in the league, but when I saw him play, I saw nothing that could make him a superstar. Now, however, things have obviously changed.

i definitely could see alves at valencia--i would actually think it would be a near certainty if they cash in by selling david villa to the highest bidder.

    from Gazeta Esportiva:

Estou estudando”, afirmou o ex-jogador do Atlético-MG.

He looks like a good player but the highlights don't show how he is when he doesn't have the ball and stuff like that. Is he one of those players that don't do crap unless the ball is passed to his feet or let the rest of the team do all the hard work and then shows up just to put the ball in the back of the net? I want players who give 100% no matter how meaningless the game is.

    Re: Alfonso Alves

He's a player who often go back to the midfield to get the ball their. That's because he was used to play behind the first striker, when he played for Mälmo.

  17. Re: Alfonso Alves

To show what he is worth he just was awarded the Dutch Golden Boot by the news paper "de Telegraaf" and he has beaten Ronaldo's record with 4 goals!!
Other winners of the golden boot were players like van Basten, Cruyff, van Nistelrooy, Kuyt etc. Just in case that idiot who thinks that scoring in the Dutch league means nothing start pissing again.
And he's ahead for the European golden boot too. Only an Italian can overtake him, but then has to score 5 goals in 4 matches.

    Re: Alfonso Alves

english translation of an article that talks about alves and how he could win the Golden boot award
The Brazilian forward Afonso Alves, of the Hereenveen Dutch, aspires to conquer the"Golden boot" as the top scorer of the European Leagues, with 34 goals, followed by the Italian Francesco Totti, of the Rome of Italy with 21 annotations.

The player of 26 years was proclaimed this Sunday maximum scorer of the Eredivisie of Holland, that conquered for three years in a row the PSV Eindhoven.

With his 34 goals this season in the modest team Hereenveen (finished fifth the homemade tournament), Alves is a serious candidate to the "Boot of Gold" European.

Alves is the author of more than the half of the goals of the Hereenveen this course (60), that this year managed to get in the fight for the second Dutch ticket to the League of European Champions.

In the classification of the Golden boot, Alves is first with 51 units (1.5 by each goal in Holland) and only would be able to surpass him the Italian one Francesco Totti, of the Rome of Italy.

Totti carries 42 units double its 21 goals, and would need to score five goals in the last four games that remain of the Calcio, that already has been conquered by the Inter of Milan.

Alves, formed in the Athletic club of Mineiro of Brazil, arrived at Europe in 2002 and played five years in Sweden, until the passed campaign when Heerenveen acquired his services.

In its first year in the Dutch club, Alves was elected best player of the season surpassing Dutch Philip Cocu (PSV).

With his 34 goals in the League "tulip", Alves surpassed the registration in the PSV of its countrymen Ronaldo Nazario (30 goals in 1994-1995) and Romario (25 in the 1990-1991).

List of contenders for the Golden boot

    Afonso Alves Heerenveen (HOL) 34

    Totti Rome (ITA) 21

    Kanouté Seville (ESP) 19

    Diego Military Zaragoza (ESP) 19

    Drogba Chelsea (ING) 19

    Gekas Bochum (GO HIM) 19

They go Nistelrooy Real Madrid (ESP) 18

    Lucarelli Livorno (ITA) 18

    Ronaldinho Barcelona (ESP) 17

Afonso Alves looks like a free kick specialist, and if he gets called up to Brazil for Copa America he should be the captain, free kick taker, corner kick taker, and penalty taker.......hes really good, I wont be surprised if Brazil win the England and Turkey friendly matches because of his goals
