I think it will be closer, and after a scare Geelong will win by 17. (actually my intial thought was a shock Hawthorn win by 10, but I've broken my own rule and changed my mind)
After careful consderation (and listening to all the ladies on the red carpet at the Brownlow), I have come to a decision that should shock no one: Hawthorn by 18. I think it will be close throughout (no more than 2 goals the difference either way as the match progresses), but Hawthorn kicks a couple late to leg it out.
It's the match we all wanted to see. The two best sides in competition going at it for the ultimate prize. Unfortunately, I'll be out of town and will be in black out mode until I can see the match. I really want to tip Hawthorn, but can't bring myself to do it. So my tip is Geelong by 27. Let's hope it's a tight encounter. Enjoy the game everyone!
I saw some live streams from TheAge.com...but it quit right as Hawthorn was in the middle of the turn onto Collins Street.
By the way, Mr. bt2001, I'm stunned that you haven't yet hit me up for a side bet...your Cats and my Hawks...hmmmm?
I know, just been very busy with work. Speaking of which, I've had more than enough Hawthorn fans to deal with on the job as it is. And I work at a place on one end of Glenferrie Road. PM me with any ideas.
Great story---Typical Aussie Expats who "must" get their Aussie Rules GF fix in storm damaged Houston -Texas. - The owner of the Pub only knows that his stocks of Fosters will have to increased for the thirsty fans. Can you even buy Fosters in Australia? I never saw it when I was there. The stuff people in England seem to blissfully ingnorantly believe is shipped over from Australia is actually brewed about 300 yards south of Reading's Madejski Stadium. It was said that it became famous here because an early Barry Humphries character often spoke of it during his act, and Barry had picked it as being an obscure Australian brand.
I don't know, but I've already got a case of Toohey's New ready to go. And I just found a website that imports Four and Twenty Pies in Southern California.
I'm a bit concerned by two Saturday morning headlines... Parade passion stuns Buddy Crawford admits to butterflies I'm hoping Clarkson can get them good and focused and calm in the rooms before they run out for the big one. If the Hawks play like deer in the headlights like these headlines imply, this could be over early. I'm off to work for a few hours, back just after opening bounce. Enjoy, everyone!
You sorry Cats. Lot of NFL punters you'll produce after that. BigFooty is going to be unbearable now. Condolences, BT.
Thanks, krudmonk -- and most heart-felt congratulations to Spartacus (whom I've known offline for more years than I care to remember) and all of the other Hawthorn fans for that epic win. And the full-time score before 100,072 fans at the MCG on a picture-postcard, sun-baked Saturday Melbourne afternoon (screw the "result" tags, here it is in all the glory), between Geelong and Hawthorn: Geelong 11.23 (89) Hawthorn 18.7 (115)
Good thing I didn't. And same with some of the Hawthorn supporters at my day job, who are going to be absolutely unbearable on Monday. Now to tabulate the results of the finals tipping competition, and to announce a winner...
Spartacus was closest, picking the victorious Hawks by 18 points, as they won by 26 in the end. I know you'll love your DVD of this year's Grand Final, which will be sent once it comes out. I might also include a WEG poster commemorating the event, as well, from the Herald Sun's shop out at Southbank.
Thanks, mate. The boys are waiting for the annual pies and Toohey's viewing party here in the states once the DVD is in.
I experienced the same thing with Ben, earlier in the season, when I was working Ricky Nixon's private box at Telstra Dome for one game. Very nice guy. Sounds like we should be bumping two other threads here. But anyway, did Ben make a decision on which club he'd like to play for? I believe an announcement was due this morning.
Back on topic, of sorts -- and the Grand Final celebrations have begun. The aforementioned Jeff Kennett has decided to break out an old fashion accessory of his, in light of Hawthorn's Grand Final win. Oh, my goodness.
