Uh, I wasn't saying it was. I was just suggesting the southern hemi as a spot where it was hot in January.
Wow, Ghana beaten 3-2 by Comoros, finishes bottom of their group. Ouch. Anyway, I hope Mensah’s on a plane today for the States.
Might have time off to go see his extended family while he's over there, as I don't think anyone expected this result.
Because this competition hasn't been wacky enough, why not throw a stampede into the mix? https://www.espn.com/soccer/africa-cup-of-nations/story/4578486/at-least-?linkId=149408394
Imagine a Copa America where Argentina, Brazil and Colombia are all eliminated in the group stage Or a UEFA champio ship where Italy, Spain and France all get dumped out early. That's an AFCON without Ghana, Algeria and Nigeria. It's currently chaos over there.
Ghana has been trending down for a while now, and BIG BIG teams like Egypt, Ivory Coast, and Senegal are still there (though the first two play each other next, yikes). Algeria is a shock for sure, Nigeria too.
And now farce has become tragedy as eight people are dead and dozens more seriously injured at the Cameroon/ Comoros quarterfinal. Details are slim but the CAF says the tournament will continue. They have commissioned a study to figure out what happened.
They had a big crowd pressing to get into the stadium. It's unclear if they had tickets or not but the country had planned to reduce capacity for the match from 66K to 50K.

FIFA's lack of self-awareness is really breathtaking or maybe the most cynical argument I have ever heard.
