Looks like Philippines reversed the score with two late goals at 90' and 90'+2'. :alien:

Mongolia is the first team eliminated from qualifying for the 2023 WWC.

Well, they were a fair team: they took the exact same number of goals (12!) from both their opponents, so now South Korea and Uzbekistan will have to settle the score by themselves, without relying in any way to the goal difference vs Mongolia.

Nepali players proved that 1-2 with Philippines wasn't a one time lucky game. Women's football developement in their country perhaps isn't racing but steady growth is there.

    It is a good jest.

But, think about it, why wouldn't it want it that way? Rather than have it be decided by one team scoring 12 on Mongolia while another scored a lucky 13th?

Cap the goal differential from any one game at 5 or 6.

I have to ask because it's never been clearly spelled out on these threads and I am confused: are the qualifiers for AFC Women's Cup the same as the qualifiers for WWC 2023? :cautious:

Sort of - the AFC Women's Cup matches are the official WWC qualifiers, but there's a round of qualifiers to get into the AFC Women's Cup as well. Essentially, you could view it as a two-phase qualification process to the WWC, but that's not how the matches are going to be registered in FIFA documents (which is important for ranking calculations, etc.) For fans, though, it's the same overall process. Every confederation except for UEFA has this mixed-stream qualification process, since every confederation except UEFA uses their continental championship as WWC qualifiers.

In general groups with three teams are not good (MWC 2026). To avoid the situation that scoring against the minnow of the group decides who qualifies has AFC scheduled the game between the pot 1 and pot 2 teams on the last matchday in all groups. South Korea had the advantage of a longer rest after their game and Uzbekistan had the advantage to know how many goals they would have to score so that a draw in their last game would be enough. If it`s a problem for you if a team scores a lucky goal than I guess you would have also disallowed the first goal for South Korea against Uzbekistan (an own goal).

No one's equating an own goal in a competitive matchup with the 12th or 13th goal (lucky or otherwise) against a vastly weaker opponent. Except people who have to resort to strawman arguments.

Cap the goal differential for any match at +5 or +6. There would be barely a peep from anybody. Except from those who have already dug in their heels over it.

So you admit that it`s irrelevant if a goal was lucky(Why you use this as an argument then?). Goal is goal and 13 are more than 12. And 12 are much more than 5. So how would it been fair if Uzbekistan had only scored five goals and then beaten South Korea in a penalty shoot-out?

Iran defeated Jordan on PKs, 4-2, after tied 0-0 and on goal differential. Iran qualifies for their first Asian Cup.

Congrats to Iran for their first qualification. Honestly I was initially surprised to see Jordan unable to get the W, just based on the history of both teams, but checking the rankings, I saw that there's only about a 40pt difference between them, so the draw isn't nearly as surprising in that sense. Also, the Philippines are sandwiched between the two, which is low for my expectations based on their history.

So all these games count as "Continental qualifiers", that is 2X friendly for the purpose of calculating FIFA ratings and rankings? (As opposed to 3X for the Asia Cup itself?)
